Spoiler Warning: The comments on this article may contain spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

The central gameplay hook of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is, of course, the echo mechanic. Allowing Princess Zelda to copy various different objects and monsters to help her during combat or with solving puzzles seemed like the developers’ attempt to bring the freedom of the Switch titles into the 2D Zelda formula.

These echoes can be a lot of fun to experiment with. However, given the user interface (UI) improvements to the Inventory navigation in Tears of the Kingdom compared to Breath of the Wild, I was a little disappointed to discover that echo navigation and selection were not more streamlined. Don’t get me wrong; I really enjoyed playing Echoes of Wisdom. But once you’ve got more than 20 echoes, it does become quite tedious trying to find the right one for any given situation.

When searching for an echo, there are several displays, including the “Most Used” view, but having a Favorites option would have been much better, giving quick access to the most important echoes. Taking it a step further and offering the ability to archive some of the echoes that you don’t use, like pots, statues, or low-level enemies, would have meant a reduction in the quantity of echoes, making it much simpler to find the echoes you do want.

I would have also liked to quickly find all the Fire, Ice, or Electric echoes too, so a sort option based on Elemental type would have been another very useful feature. I was also hoping for an equivalent of Tears of the Kingdom’s Autobuild ability. This feature would have eliminated the constant building of trampoline and box in the early part of the game, and sped up the creation of everyone’s favorite “old bed bridge.”

What are your thoughts? How would you have preferred Echoes of Wisdom‘s menus to be handled? Are you happy with the way the UI worked? Let us know in the comments below!
