Spoiler Warning: The comments on this article may contain spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

While the idea of a second quest dates all the way back the original Zelda game, Hero Mode was first introduced to the series in 2011’s Skyward Sword. In Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds, the player must first complete the game in order to unlock Hero Mode. In other recent games, the player can select select Hero Mode at the beginning of the game or toggle between normal and Hero Mode. In Echoes of Wisdom, the player can toggle between the two difficulty at any time by going to the menu. In Echoes of Wisdom’s Hero Mode, the player takes double damage from enemies, and hearts will not appear. Additionally, some accessories related to hearts and faeries are disabled.

In your experiences with Echoes of Wisdom up to this point, have you experimented with or activated Hero Mode?

While I think Nintendo made a smart decision by making Hero Mode available during the first playthrough, I have not used Hero Mode in Echoes of Wisdom. My plan is to complete a full Hero Mode playthrough at some point in the next year. I am very curious to see how Hero Mode changes the gameplay experience, and how much it increases the difficulty of the game. I found Echoes of Wisdom to be a fairly easy game, and I did not have to use many smoothies or potions. That being said, I have used the bed a lot to heal between different combat encounters. One of my only complaints about the implementation of Hero Mode in Echoes of Wisdom is that beds can still be used to heal Zelda; it would have made for a more challenging experience if the healing abilities of beds were disabled.

What are your thoughts on the Hero Mode in Echoes of Wisdom? Have you experimented with or activated Hero Mode in the game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below?
