Spoiler Warning: This article and the comments section may contain spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Bustling with people and commerce, Castle Town is an important location in many Zelda games. In Breath of the Wild, very little of Castle Town is seen before its destruction, and 100 years later, it remains in ruins. With Guardians swarming the area and Castle Town’s location being in such close proximity to Hyrule Castle, it made a lot of sense that people would stay far away. But in Tears of the Kingdom, not only is Castle Town destroyed, but it doesn’t look like it was rebuilt at all in the time gap between the two games, and for me, it’s an odd choice.

As you explore the Surface in Tears of the Kingdom, you can find several monuments Zelda established honoring the people and places lost to the Calamity (a touch that I actually really like), which includes Castle Town. Maybe it was meant to be a sign of respect to leave it be, but wouldn’t Castle Town be a desirable place to live again, and why would no one want to rebuild it? Lurelin Village has a great side quest in Tears of the Kingdom where, after the village was completely ravaged by pirates, you have the opportunity to help them rebuild. It creates a sense of solidarity and community with the people of Hyrule, and I think Castle Town deserved similar treatment.

What do you think? Would you have liked the opportunity to rebuild Castle Town and restore it to its former glory in Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know in the comments!
