The topic of a return to traditional dungeons has been a hot button topic among Zelda fans since Breath of the Wild released in 2017. Breath of the Wild saw the Zelda series take a step away from the formula that The Legend of Zelda has followed since its original release in 1986. Tears of the Kingdom followed in Breath of the Wild‘s footsteps with non-traditional dungeons last year, but will Echoes of Wisdom do the same come September?

I feel confident in saying that we will see a lot of the puzzles that we know and love using the “echoes” mechanic that Princess Zelda can summon, and I can see that ability lending itself well to a more traditional dungeon format. My argument for the return to traditional dungeons would be that this is Zelda’s first game where she is the star; why would we not have traditional dungeons? As of writing, I don’t have much of an opinion either way, but it would be fun to have some new dungeons to love (or hate.)

If we do see a non-traditional approach to dungeons in Echoes of Wisdom I certainly won’t be disappointed. Having a game where we play as Zelda is a treat in itself and I’m excited for new abilities, new puzzles, and saving Link for once.

What are your thoughts though? Do you think that we will have traditional dungeons in Echoes of Wisdom? Let us know your thoughts on the upcoming game in the comments below.
