Collection Spotlight: The Dreamer
Posted on March 20 2014 by Tyler Tag
Greetings CS10K. This week’s Collection Spotlight showcases Marshall and his Zelda museum. Along with pictures of his collection, Marshall offers us my favorite part of these spotlights: stories about how the series has impacted his life. Like many of us, Marshall has imagined himself as our hero clad in green on endless adventures to save a princess and the world. Jump inside to see more.
My name is Marshall, I live in San Antonio, Texas. I got my first console (the NES) when I was four years old for Christmas. The console came with Mario and Duckhunt. I also received one other video game that year which was The Legend of Zelda. With my Nintendo unboxed and layed out before me, I was immediately drawn to the golden cartridge of the original Zelda. I was hooked! When I wasn’t playing Zelda, I was outside in the woods behind the house with a stick pretending I was Link, going on epic adventures to save Princess Zelda.
The collection really started to grow around the time of the Skyward Sword release. I wanted to own my own personal Zelda museum. Now, I can stare at the collection for hours, going over each and every title as memories flood over me. Memories not only of Zelda, but my entire childhood. Each game is tied to a specific age of my life. Ocarina of Time definitely made the biggest impression on me. The month before the game came out I recieved my Nintendo Power in the mail. This was the Ocarina of Time issue. I went over that map of Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Field probably a million times. I have never been that hyped for a game before or since.
One item that I’m looking forward to owning one day would have to be the yellow test cartridge for The Legend of Zelda. I would also love anything signed by the great one himself, Shigeru Miyamoto. In a perfect world, that copy of the test cartridge would be signed by Shigeru Miyamoto. I’ll keep dreaming until then.
I simply wanted to share the collection and hear others love and passion for the Zelda series. Please enjoy.
Weekly Collection Selection:
This week’s Collection Selection follows Marshall’s dreams. These Zelda Demo versions are stamped “Not for Resale” which makes them even more desirable to collectors!
These are just a couple that are available, but I just picked these to act as a jumping off point for further searching. These demos show off some of our favorite titles from Ocarina of Time, The Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword, and even the dark horse, The Wand of Gamelon. Happy hunting and I hope you find an addition that makes your collection even more unique.
In closing I ask, would you like to see your collection spotlighted on the website? Do you want to share how you got into Zelda and show off the items you are proud of owning?
Send me an email at tyler@zeldadungeon.net. Include some pictures, a little background of who you are, how you got into Zelda, your first Zelda game, a listing of the items you have now, what you hope to own in the future, and your favorite item.
Please do not be frightened or discouraged when you see these showcases. I’m receiving emails from collectors who are hesitant to have their collections featured even though they are quite good.
Also feel free to comment on whatever you like. A personal favorite of mine was the ocarina set, how about you? What type of items would you like to see in the Collection Selection? List it below and I will attempt to find it for sale!
