Collection Spotlight: New Year, New Collections
Posted on January 11 2015 by Tyler Tag
Now that the New Year is well underway, the time is now to bring back the Collection Spotlight. This long hiatus has been too long, and there is no better time then now to bring the Zelda Dungeon community closer through sharing each other’s Collections and stories of how we all fell in love with Zelda. Please feel free to check out this week’s post and also send an email to me at Tyler@zeldadungeon.net so you too can have your collection and story displayed on the site.
My name is Lex and I’m 19 years old. The Zelda Dungeon community might know me as “TwilightLinkcess.” The best way to understand why I am into collecting everything that is Zelda is to explain how i first got into Zelda. In the beginning, Ocarina of Time became the first Zelda game that I’ve ever played. Ocarina of Time was not only the first Zelda game I played but it was also the first video game I ever played. When I was five years old, my mom bought a N64 from my cousin; it came with two games, Star Fox, and Ocarina of Time. My mother’s actions changed my life without her even knowing. I had a choice to make, play Star Fox or Ocarina of Time. If I chose Star Fox, then I would not be writing this post today and I would probably be obsessed with a space foxes instead of a Hylian hero.
Once I saw a sword and shield on the Ocarina of Time cartridge I was curious enough to play it before the other game. What I thought then as a five year old was that Ocarina of Time revolved around running around Kokiri Forest cutting crass, throwing rocks, running from a giant boulder, and rolling in the back right corner of the shop because I was pretending I was using the Kokiri bathroom. After two straight months of those repetitive actions, I gave up on Ocarina of Time and gave Star Fox a try. I did not return to Zelda until I was seven. During my second attempt, I had more common sense and was able to read and comprehend more. I started interacting with the Kokiri and I found out about the Deku Tree. Once inside the Deku Tree I was stuck for a very long time. Right before I was about to give up for a second time, I finally beat the boss and triumphed over the Deku Tree. When the cutscene displayed Hyrule Field for the first time after Link leaves the forest, I finally understood that this game was going to be quite an adventure. I still remember that feeling, that spark I got when I first saw that scene. I knew there was more to this green clothed boy than breaking people’s pots. I knew there was exploring that was going to take place.
Since then I’ve been intrigued by this series. From when I first got the Master Sword, to when I entered the Forest Temple and heard that beautiful yet mysterious gloomy music. It’s just a certain feeling that I only get from Zelda. One reason might be that controlling Link as he rides Epona in Hyrule field at night in Twilight Princess makes me feel like I belong there. However besides that, I think that the creators of Zelda do such a great job creating a place that the player can embrace with all the melodic or creepy tunes. I also love the storylines, especially Majora’s Mask. They drag me into the Zelda world with all the depth that the story adds to each game. One example is when FI was talking to Link at the end of Skyward Sword. That scene was so incredibly touching that I felt like I was there witnessing the exchange. Some final loose ends include Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game, and my favorite Zelda enemies include Zant, Skull Kid, and Ghirahim. That’s my Zelda story, and I hope you enjoy my collection.

Now that it’s back, I need collections to show off for future posts. I need your help. Would you like to see your collection spotlighted on the website? Do you want to share how you got into Zelda and show off the items you are proud of owning? Lets create an even closer Zelda community by swapping stories about the series we love.
Send me an email at tyler@zeldadungeon.net. Each submission should include a background of who you are, how you got into Zelda, your first Zelda game, a listing of the items you have now, what you hope to own in the future, your favorite item, some pictures showing off your collection, and anything else you would like to include. The post will be about you and your collection. Feel free to make the post belong to you.
Please do not be frightened or discouraged when you see these showcases. I’m receiving emails from collectors who are hesitant to have their collections featured even though they are quite good. We welcome small to large collections, and starter to experienced collections.
Also feel free to comment on whatever you like. What was your favorite item in this spotlight? What else can I do to make these posts special, fun, and engaging? Post your comments below and I will attempt to respond to everything!
