The Game Boy Color’s Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons holds a special place in my heart. There’s an air of mystery about them that’s hard to describe. Developed by Capcom, Ages and Seasons are a cohesive pair that players can tackle in either order. Traveling through both Labrynna and Holodrum make for an unforgettable adventure. Though quirky at times (see Sokra, for example), the titles have that Zelda charm. A large part of this boils down to their music.
Today, we’re taking a look at musician Aaron Grubb’s “Nayru’s Song,” an arrangement from Oracle of Ages. Grubb’s work captures the magic of the Oracle games’ music. The track’s haunting piano quickly builds to a crescendo featuring strings and vocal notes. The full piece as presented would be at home in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, or Skyward Sword.
Aaron Grubb is no stranger to Zelda Dungeon. We’ve most recently reported on his Legend of Zelda Collection, Vol. 4. Grubb also contributed music for the 2024 Zelda Dungeon Marathon video.
The artwork for “Nayru’s Song,” provided by artist Kay, depicts a peaceful moment between Link and Nayru in a wildlife-abundant woodland. The scene portrayed is a perfect fit for Grubb’s thoughtful arrangement.
New song alert!!! Thanks again to Kay (Moonglow.And.starshine on Instagram) for the amazing art! I love how this song turned out and I hope you do too! pic.twitter.com/pKjZ2xZwIc
