One of the most incredible things about the Zelda series is the way that the art styles and character designs have changed over the past thirty-six years. If you show a Zelda fan a screenshot of a game, or even a piece of concept art, they will likely be able to tell you what game it came from. That is pretty incredible, given that some game series strive to look similar from one iteration to the next. Fortunately, the Zelda games have never been like that.

This brief but exciting animated video by Drafstman Roski compiles characters and moments from across the Zelda series into a single video. While there is a unifying art style used to draw many of the characters, it is easy to recognize the different costumes and settings from a variety of games. Drafstman Roski‘s animation includes one short clip for each major game in the series. This one-minute trip through Zelda‘s history uses real sound effects from the various games, which adds a level of authenticity to the entire video. The animation does not go in any clear chronological order, thought it closes with a stylish tease for the untitled sequel to Breath of the Wild.

If you enjoyed this video, Drafstman Roski also has an intriguing Metroid 35th Anniversary fan animation and a wicked Castlevania 35th Anniversary fan animation (which has some flashing lights in it). Both of these videos are thoughtful tributes to great video game franchises.
