The vast world of Hyrule is amazing within Zelda games themselves. When someone brings those maps from a 2D representation to a 3D world, it makes it even more impressive. Zelda Dungeon has recently featured two Breath of the Wild maps, one created with LEGO and the other a diorama with mixed media. Artist Jazza decided to honor the newest entry in the Zelda series, Echoes of Wisdom, with a 3D printed map.

Jazza created and worked on the map long before Echoes of Wisdom officially released, so he primarily based the map on A Link to the Past and the available trailers at the time. The giant map, which measures 2.4 meters by 2.4 meters, allows a wonderful amount of detail.

Jazza shares his struggles and triumphs as he constructs and builds the map. He starts with the foam layers and builds up the elevation to represent Hyrule’s rivers, lake, and mountains. Next, he uses a VR sculpting program to create the rock faces, trees, and other elements of the map. There are over 700 trees on the map, which Jazza says took 2 and a half weeks of non-stop printing to complete.

Other artists and modelers help Jazza to create some of the buildings and features. One of the modelers, who goes by “M” in the video, made some builds that are printed without the use of supports. Most 3D printing uses supports, which are like scaffolding to hold the desired print in place. The fact that the houses and bushes were printed without the use of supports really shows the skills and talent of the team who put this map together.

After all of the 3D printed elements, Jazza finishes off the map by adding paint and various textures to make the map feel more realistic but still keeping the cartoony feel of the featured art style of Echoes of Wisdom. He even prints a model of Zelda herself to complete the entire project.

You can check out Jazza’s other work on his Instagram, YouTube channel, and website. He makes art in all kinds of mediums, a lot of it based around gaming.

What do you think of this build of the map from A Link to the Past and Echoes of Wisdom? Do you do 3D art and modeling yourself? Let us know what you think in the comments!
