Cave of Trials: Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament – Round Two, Part One

Ladies and gentleman, my name is Kristen. Rosario. And I am your host for the CAVE OF TRIALS! Now before we begin the first part of Round Two of the SMASH ULTIMATE FANTASMIC HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT, let’s take a look at the bracket to see who else made it to Round Two!

There were definitely some very grueling bouts in that second half to Round One. However, with the first round out of the way, it’s time to move on to Round Two! And as you can see from the bracket above, four new names have entered the tournament as we start Round Two. Black Mage from the Final Fantasy series, Amaterasu from Okami, Kratos from the God of War series, and the trio of Link’s from Tri Force Heroes.

These four combatants spots were chosen at random, so anybody from Round One had a chance at a luck of the draw scenario when those two lucky spots were picked out. For this week though, we will only be focusing on the first new Round Two competitors Black Mage and Amaterasu, while we find out more about Kratos and the Link’s next week.

Speaking of Black Mage, this magical being will be taking on a survivor of Round One, Felix. Since this is Black Mage’s first appearance in this tournament, I thought it would only be fair to let their manager speak on their behalf.

And would you look at that? It seems yet another former (inferior and revolting) host of Cave of Trials has decided to try his hand at managerial work. So this is what Andy Spiteri, Black Mage’s Manager, had to say about his client:

“Felix can pick his poison. Flame. Flash. Freeze. Either way you cut it, Black Mage will obliterate him, making winning his final fantasy.”

So who wins the first match in Round Two?!

Our next fight is sure to be a doozy as Ghirahim from Skyward Sword takes on the hero of hearts, Sora. Both of these fighters managed to get solid victories against their opponents from Round One and now look to get the upper hand in this fight.

Learning from his own client, Sora’s Manager Cagey R. has a few words to say before his client’s Round Two match begins:

“Look, I know where exactly Sora is fighting in and that is the Cave of Trials. Notorious for its legendary bouts of Hyrule’s finest warriors, there is no doubt that he has a tough opponent ahead in the form of the former Cave of Trials Champion. I am here today to let you know that the evil that lurks in this arena must not prevail here on this very day!

Let us not forget that Ghirahim is a ruthless, vindictive, no good SOB who will do whatever it takes to win this fight. He is the catalyst for the pain and suffering every generation of Hyrulean goes to this day! A true Champio-NO, A TRUE HERO who has seen both sides of this coin and lived to tell the tale about it is someone who deserves a shot at that title. With his experience fighting all forms of evil, I have NO DOUBT that by the end of next January you will be hearing, ‘And NEW…’. “

Powerful words from Cagey R., but the question remains, who lives to see another day?!

The third match we will be witnessing in Round Two this week is Frog going up against Sub-Zero. These two brave warriors in their respective rights look to have an honorable bout. Oh, and it looks like Sub-Zero’s Manager, Taylor Wells, has some words to say about this matchup:

“A frog? The Match Coordinators put the Master of the Lin Kuei himself against a frog? Look, I’m not against frog’s and their fantastic agility, but I’ve trained Sub-Zero to within an inch of his life. If anyone can make it to the finals, it’s my boy. He’ll freeze that poor frog’s soul.”

Wow, those are some harsh words coming from Sub-Zero’s Manager. Regardless, this should be a fierce bout! Who wins this match?!

Our last match for this week introduces another new combatant as Amaterasu takes on The Hand from Majora’s Mask. This is what Amaterasu’s Manager, Almog Rimmer, had to say about his godly client:

“The Hand may have had his first victory, but here’s where it stops. He is up against the Goddess of the Sun, capable of changing the flow of nature and even the heavens themselves. A sly fox with nine tails stood no chance, and even the lord of darkness himself fell against my client’s might. This is her turf now, and she won’t tolerate strangers.”
