As the Zelda series began to progress and technology improved, one of the greatest boons was the ability to thematically develop the dungeons. From the simplistic gimmick of Key Cavern to the dark history of Arbiter’s Grounds, Zelda dungeons went from cookie-cutter labyrinths to structures with personality and pizzazz. With the cold weather months upon us, I thought it would be pretty chill to look at the various ice-themed dungeons throughout the series? Which is your favorite? While The Minish Cap‘s Temple of Droplets has…

Another spin around the sun has come and went, and with it, the latest installment of Zelda Dungeon’s proudest yearly tradition: Best. Zelda. Ever! 2022 marked the first year in quite some time where we had no real Zelda activity. No new games were released, no new projects were announced, it was… quiet. Although we got a title for the long-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild, 2022 seemed like a year that could best be described as the calm…

Stealth quests are some of my favorite elements of gameplay in any videogame.  I just love the suspense as I creep sneakily through an enemy’s hold, plundering their valuables before I reach my destination.  And if I’m caught?  Well, then it’s just as fun to deal with the consequences!  Games like Skyrim really hit that sweet, sneaky spot for me, and I’d love to see The Legend of Zelda do more of the same. Zelda games have incorporated some of…

Happy Monday Zelda Cast fam! We’ve got a doozy of a show this week, as we go nearly ninety minutes discussing collectathon items and assigning them a grade! Everything from Secret Seashells to Golden Skulltullas to Ship Parts to Tri Force Heroes Outfits to, of course, Koroks are on the table, and we’re getting digging in deep to find out what makes a good collectathon. Does multiple rewards make it more rewarding? How does the story of the quest factor…

The official Zelda Timeline is one of my favorite things in the entire franchise.  It’s a really cool piece of information that creates structure within the Zelda universe, and at the same time, adds more depth to the series’ lore.  I also really love that the split in the timeline stems from Ocarina of Time, which is my all-time favorite game ever.  Finally, I quite enjoy the debates surrounding that split, such as whether it should be accepted, or whether…

Liam Triforce, a content creator on YouTube known for his deep dives into his favorite video games, gives Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks some time in the limelight with this new retrospective video. These two games are often lost in the shuffle when it comes to discussions of fan favorites. In fact, Phantom Hourglass actually gets a lot of heat for its tedious nature. Its endless and repetitive visits to the Temple of the Ocean King keep it off a…

Link isn’t the only adventurer relying on a trusty sword and board throughout the Zelda series. Many factions with similar goals of plunder inhabit these lands and more than a few have been of the swashbuckling variety. In fact, seafaring knaves have been a pretty consistent motif throughout the franchise. Appearing as primary characters, one-off encounters, mini-bosses, and even secondary protagonists, these rapscallions span the gamut from obscure to extremely popular. Who are some of your favorite pirates in the Zelda series? Of…

Most Zelda fans have had gripes about the inclusion of certain companion characters in the series at one point or another. Navi’s “Hey! Listen!” heard one too many times in Ocarina of Time can be grating and distracting. Skyward Sword‘s Fi is a downright divisive character, with players often either loving her and her cool design as the spirit of the Master Sword, or hating her and her penchant for frequent interruptions and obvious information dumps. Other companions in the…

I love to harp on about the Temple Of The Ocean King and how it pulls Phantom Hourglass down my ranking list of Zelda games. However, I will acknowledge that Phantom Hourglass is one of the Zelda games that are unfortunately overshadowed because of the amount of stupendous Zelda games it gets compared to. In my preferring of Breath of the Wild, The Wind Waker, and even Spirit Tracks, I often forget how much I enjoyed the charm, intelligence, and wit…
