Breath of the Wild Sequel Theory Explores Ganondorf’s Fate and the Role of Malice
Posted on July 17 2019 by Heather Beard
We’re over a month removed from E3 2019, so everyone has had some time to process the news of the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel. Nintendo only gave us a taste of what’s to come in this new Zelda game, and fans have been hard at work deciphering every aspect of the the teaser trailer. For example, popular Zelda content creators Zeltik and Nintendo Black Crisis have teamed up to bring us their theory about the Malice that surrounds the Ganondorf-esque corpse in the sequel trailer.
Zeltik starts off the video by explaining the origin of the male Gerudo Ganondorf from Ocarina of Time before delving into the character’s ultimate demise during the end of Twilight Princess. Was Ganondorf really dead, or had he been preserved throughout the centuries, as his Malice slowly poisoned the land?
The two hosts go back and forth discussing their theories surrounding the Malice that is pouring from the decaying body underneath what many think to be Hyrule Castle. They state at one point in the video that the line of male succession in the Gerudo has potentially halted because of Ganondorf’s corpse being preserved for thousands of years. Malice has been pouring from this body, and they discuss the influence of Malice across other games, such as when enemies explode once they are defeated. Could there be a correlation between it all?
I really enjoy their thoughts on it all, and I find myself in agreement with a lot of what they’ve said.
What do you think? Are Zeltik’s and Nintendo Black Crisis’ theories spot on? Sound off in the comments below.
