Breath of the Wild Lookalike Causes Stir at Chinese Game Convention

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Gameplay for a new RPG titled Genshin Impact  — described as an anime version of the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild — was debuted at the China Joy gaming expo this past weekend. The game, which is being developed by Mihoyo and was announced for the Playstation 4 at E3, is now being called out for allegedly copying major elements of Nintendo’s latest Zelda release.

Fans were quick to point out several similarities between Genshin Impact and Breath of the Wild, including gameplay elements, visuals, and even music.

Breath of the Wild fans at the convention were largely critical of Genshin Impact. Several attendees held up their Nintendo Switches and copies of Breath of the Wild in front of Sony’s booth, where the upcoming game was being shown. But despite all of the negativity from Zelda fans, Genshin Impact was said to be the most popular game at the expo.
