Blindfolded Speedrun of Ocarina of Time’s First Three Temples
Posted on January 12 2015 by Legacy Staff
One of the highlights from Awesome Games Done Quick you might have missed yesterday was a speedrun of the first three temples in Ocarina of Time. The twist here is the runner, Runnerguy2489, completed this feat wearing a blindfold.
Starting his run the moment his new profile was created, Runnerguy2489 successfully navigated his way Inside the Deku Tree, Inside Jabu Jabu’s Belly, and through the Dodongo’s Cavern (in that order) with a final time of one hour, 26 minutes and 56.66 seconds.
Runnerguy2489 relied on audio cues, rigorous memorization, and several resets of the game console in order to navigate the first three temples of the 1998 Nintendo 64 title. But good hearing and a good memory were not Runnerguy2489’s only skills on display for this run. His use of several Navi Dives, sequence breaks, and jumps through walls demonstrated the capabilities of a seasoned speedrunner with an intimate knowledge of Ocarina of Time‘s layout, mechanics, and exploits.
Have you ever snagged the Bombchus from the Bottom of the Well before buying the Deku Shield or even equipping the Kokiri Sword? Have you ever hit the proper frame for a Mido Skip while blindfolded? What do you think of speedrunning games while blindfolded in general? Let us know in the comments below!
