The live-action fantasy genre has certainly taken off in the last few decades. The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones franchises take place entirely in their own worlds without acknowledging the one we live in.  For many years, this was not the case. Other popular live-action fantasy movies from the 1980s and early 1990s often had characters that came from the “real” world that were magically transported to the fantastical world. Movies like Labyrinth and even the infamous Super…

Can you believe amiibo first hit store shelves just over ten years ago? Nintendo released the first set of amiibo for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in 2014. The scannable statuettes offered in-game bonuses; and one could also train a fighter up to level 50 and save it to the appropriate amiibo. Eventually, Nintendo released amiibo for multiple games and series, each with its own functionality in its own respective games or series of games. As…

Fans of both The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon should check out Bilsu Art‘s project combining the two. In his video titled “The Complete Hyrule Pokedex!…SO FAR” he shows off his hybrid designs that perfectly blend Zelda lore and the well-loved Pokémon art style. Clocking in at nearly 50 minutes, the time flies by as Bilsu Art showcases over 200 designs of Pokémon and trainers. It seems like every monster and tribe is represented in Bilsu Art’s ambitious crossover project entitled Link Dimension. Each…

If you’ve ever wished that transferring digital games between Switch systems was as easy as transferring physical game cards, Nintendo announced a solution today via the Nintendo Direct. In the near future, “Virtual Game Cards” will be downloaded when you purchase a digital game. If you have a second Nintendo Switch tied to your Nintendo Account, you can “eject” a Virtual Game Card and play it on the second system. The Virtual Game Cards can be swapped between the two…

As we draw closer to April 2nd and the Nintendo Direct presentation for Switch 2, anticipation continues to build for what games are going to be available at launch. Launch titles are important when a console first hits store shelves because they are what “move units,” or encourage the most sales of the new system. In the past, Nintendo has leaned on their big IPs, including the Zelda series, to sell the most consoles as quickly as possible. Most recently,…

I have had an odd relationship with The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. At the time of its release, my only experiences with the Zelda series were with Ocarina of Time and Link’s Awakening DX. I remember playing Majora’s Mask and thinking that it almost felt foreign because of how different the gameplay mechanics were from the two titles I mentioned previously. While it “played” like Ocarina of Time, the extra pressure of completing quests in a three-day cycle felt more stressful….

One of the more charming sidequests I encountered when I played through Tears of the Kingdom was “Messages from an Ancient Era,” in which the player has to find and photograph thirteen stone tablets scattered across the Sky Islands. After taking the photographs, you take the images to Wortsworth in Kakariko Village. Wortsworth then reads the tablets and transcribes them onto scrolls that hang up in his research room. You can read both the “original” text of the ancient tablet and…

Most fans of Majora’s Mask are familiar with the Doggy Racetrack minigame. Located in the back of Romani Ranch, Link can go to Mamamu Yan and bet on the outcome of the dog race. Over the years, fans have noticed that one dog in particular just cannot win the race for whatever reason. I speak, of course, of the blue dog. Content creator Vidya James wanted to know if it was even possible for the lowly blue dog to win a…

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ’em,” says Malvolio as he reads a letter in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. While the circumstances around the quote are humorous, the quote itself has taken on a life of its own in evaluating those in prominent positions. The various kings of Hyrule in the Zelda series certainly fit the bill when it comes to greatness of some kind. A few years ago, another writer posed the question, “Who was…

The beginning of a new year holds both promise and opportunity for growth and new experiences. And Nintendo celebrated this special time with new official art for Echoes of Wisdom. The art, released on X by Nintendo’s various regional accounts, features Zelda with Tri sitting on her head, surrounded by two Zol as she gazes into the distance. The official Japanese Legend of Zelda account on X posted the entire artwork, which shows the Stamp Guy hanging out in the…
