Aonuma unsure about future Zelda remakes

Eiji Aonuma, the famous video game directer we know know all too well, has been conversing quite a bit about remakes recently with the very topical release of The Wind Waker HD. And the most discussed remake is probably Majora’s Mask 3D, a sequel to Ocarina of Time 3D, which many people inquire about. Many are hopeful it will happen as they see it as a logical choice with the fan-favorite type of game and the popularity of Ocarina of Time 3D. Aonuma’s outlook and plans have remained quite vague but he has definitely acknowledged it as a possibility.
However, Aonuma did elaborate slightly in a recent interview with 4Gamer, explaining he was unsure about Zelda remakes and him and his team would at least somewhat rely on how well The Wind Waker HD does. He also pointed out the experimental nature of Ocarina of Time 3D and remakes as a whole.
His full comment on the matter is below.
We have talked about that from the get-go, but we need to see how well Wind Waker HD does in order to set up our next title. Remakes are popular now, but we don’t know whether or not we will keep doing them from this point forward.
With Ocarina of Time 3D, we wanted a world which could expand using the feel of the 3D effect, that’s why we chose Ocarina of Time. So, it wasn’t just a regular revival, it was more of a rebirth in that case. We don’t know how many years it will be until the next remake, nor do we know what sort of hardware there will be. Perhaps, when there is a new piece of technology, we would look at existing Zelda games and decide if we would like to remake one of them.
