A YouTuber Believes That He Discovered the Origin of Odolwa

Dr. Wily uploaded a theory on the origins of Majora’s Mask’s Odolwa to YouTube. While Dr. Wily realizes that some people believe the game’s first boss to be African in nature, he presents a different possibility. Dr. Wily believes that Odolwa is, in fact, Mayan. He notes that some of the characteristics of Mayan warriors do not completely fit all aspects of Odolwa’s design. Despite this, he feels that the Mayan influence brings more insight into Majora’s Mask’s story.
While the Mayans did not use metal weaponry and only carried round shields with them, their viciousness and protective nature of agriculture and waterways fits the manner and setting of Odolwa. Odolwa is located in Woodfall Temple, which is in the swamp of the Deku people, and his attacks are heavy-handed when he faces Link in battle. The Maya also wear masks, which are symbols of the spirit world. Dr. Wily points out that Odolwa wears a mask that has a spirit trapped within it. This helps solidify Dr. Wily’s theory, but if more evidence is needed to cover the inconsistencies in Odolwa’s design, Woodfall Temple’s exterior and interior design is modeled after a Mayan temple, so having the boss of the temple be a Mayan warrior would make sense.
