A Link Between Worlds Nominated for Two Awards at GDC
Posted on January 13 2014 by ralphpotato
The entire list of nominees and honorable mentions for this year’s Game Developer’s Choice Awards have been released and our favorite A Link Between Worlds made an appearance in more than one area. There were arguably a lot of fantastic games in the past 12 months, so it’ll be interesting to see whether the Zelda game takes home any awards; most of us would certainly hope so.
Think you can guess the other nominees? Hit the jump to see!
A Link Between Worlds shows up in three places on the entire list of games for this year’s awards: Game of the Year, Best Design, and Best Mobile/Handheld Game. Unfortunately it’s only an honorable mention in Game of the Year, but the Zelda title still has a chance in the two other categories. Here are the full nominations for those three lists.
Game of the Year
Gone Home (The Fullbright Company)
Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar North/Rockstar Games)
The Last of Us (Naughty Dog/Sony)
Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo EAD Tokyo/Nintendo)
Tomb Raider (Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix)Honorable Mentions: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Nintendo EAD/Nintendo), Papers, Please (Lucas Pope), The Stanley Parable (Galactic Cafe), Tearaway (Media Molecule/Sony).
Best Design
Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar North/Rockstar Games)
The Last of Us (Naughty Dog/Sony)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Nintendo EAD/Nintendo)
Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo EAD Tokyo/Nintendo)
Tomb Raider (Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix)Honorable Mentions: DOTA 2 (Valve) Pokemon X & Y (Game Freak/Nintendo), Rogue Legacy (Cellar Door Games), The Stanley Parable (Galactic Cafe), SteamWorld Dig (Image & Form), TowerFall (Matt Thorson/Miniboss/Alec Holowka).
Best Handheld/Mobile Game
DEVICE 6 (Simogo)
Fire Emblem: Awakening (Intelligent Systems/Nintendo)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Nintendo EAD/Nintendo)
Ridiculous Fishing (Vlambeer)
Tearaway (Media Molecule/Sony)Honorable Mentions: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo EAD/Nintendo), 868-HACK (Michael Brough), Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (Next Level Games/Nintendo), Plants Vs. Zombies 2 (PopCap/Electronic Arts), The Room Two (Fireproof Games), SteamWorld Dig (Image & Form).
I’m not sure A Link Between Worlds can win Best Design because the competition is pretty tough, however I would be very surprised if the Best Handheld/Mobile Game award went to any of the other nominations. A Link Between Worlds was the only handheld game that appeared in the Game of the Year category, after all, even if it was just an honorable mention.
Unfortunately the decision isn’t up to us, so we’ll have to wait and see for the official verdicts are. If you’re curious, the full list of all the nominations and honorable mentions in all of the categories is available on Game Informer.
