“Excuuuuuuse me, princess!” — Link
A quote from a dim, but amusing chapter in the history of Zelda: the cartoon from the late ’80s. While this died off rather quickly, fan attempts at animation have sprung up now and again in an effort to better utilize the potential of the series, its stories, and its characters. One such artist is pursuing his particular endeavor via Kickstarter and looks to be working up a unique creation.
His name is Kyle Findley, and he wants to show fans that just because an animated Zelda could be done with CGI, that doesn’t mean it should be. His project, titled “Legend of Zelda: A Link to us all”, aims to create a short 2D Zelda animation that utilizes certain elements of modern method technology without straying too far from the traditional method and quality. And although his venture into this project is just beginning, the sample animation above demonstrates the unique character of the style behind his lofty goals:
We’ll have an energetic, innovative and creative look at characters as though they popped off the page of a historia. I would like this animation to be in the vein of “The Deathly Hallows” narrative from the 7th Harry Potter film. The style was very “legendary” if I may such a word. With something like Legend Of Zelda, it should feel as though it is a magical tale.
This campaign is just beginning and has a reasonable goal of $3,500 to reach by August 30th. If you’d like to support Kyle’s creation, there are pledge tiers starting at $10 all the way up to $100 featuring exclusive storyboard art, comics, and more. These rewards are limited, however, as they will only be shipped to backers within the US.
