4.1 Out of the Swamp
After leaving the Poison Moth’s Lair, the season in Spool Swamp will be Autumn. Link’s next destination is the Sunken City, located in eastern Holodrum. However, there are a few optional things to do in the swamp and as Link heads back east. The season will need to be Summer for the optional quests, so use the stump down one screen from Level 3 to change it.
At this point, Link can find the first of four Golden Beasts, which are gold-colored, much stronger versions of enemies found in the overworld. Completing this side-quest will reward Link with one of the most useful Magical Rings in the game. From the tree stump, head right one and down three screens into the lower region of the swamp. In Summer, there will be more Goponga Flowers and Water Tektites present, so be careful. Equip the Pegasus Seeds and Roc’s Feather, and use one of the seeds to increase Link’s speed. With the right timing, Link can easily clear the two pits to the south and continue down two screens along the path. Continue right one screen, then clockwise around the trees and along the lower path left two screens. Here, the Golden Octorok can be found. Be careful not to knock the Golden Octorok into a pit as it will not count toward defeating it, requiring Link to leave and re-enter this screen to have it respawn.
Optional: The Golden Beast #1 - Octorok
Along the path out of Spool Swamp, Link will come across the screen with the two Orange Tektites and Stone Spiny Beetle from earlier. In Summer, vines will be growing up the hill on the far right. Use the Shovel to dig the bare spot at the top of the hill to uncover a Magical Ring that will appraise randomly.
Optional: Magical Ring
Leave Spool Swamp through the path to the northeast, then continue south into the Holodrum Plain, where the season will automatically change to Spring. Jump off the ledge to reach a tree stump below. Again, more optional questing will follow that requires the season to be Summer, so change it if necessary before continuing. Afterward, continue along the path, this time heading north and using the Roc’s Feather to clear the pits which Ricky helped Link over earlier, then head east across the bridge and right one screen into North Horon.
Walk down the steps and head down one screen. Climb the vines on the right up to the ledge and go up one screen along it. Use an Ember Seed to burn the tree on the right, revealing a staircase leading to an Old Man’s Hideout. He will reward Link with 200 Rupees!
Optional: North Horon Old Man's Treasure
From where Link entered North Horon, notice the hollow log in the upper-right section of the screen. Jump over the pit and head up one screen through it into the Natzu region. Depending on which Animal Companion Link has, the Natzu region’s geography will change, requiring the unique abilities of that respective animal to navigate it.
4.2 Crossing the Natzu Region
Swipe the red lever to connect the bridge on the left, providing a shortcut back toward Spool Swamp. Link cannot call Ricky in this screen, so head across the bridge and left one screen, then call Ricky using his flute and ride with him back right one screen. Right one screen from here is a cave with a Great Fairy Fountain inside if needed. Head up the stairs and up one screen, then use Ricky to scale the ledge and continue right one screen. Punch through the bushes and enemies in the way and continue right two screens, then head down one screen and jump down from the ledge here. Continue down one screen and use Ricky’s tornado punch to clear the bushes among the pits to jump across, then head down another screen. Jump onto the ledge on the right and head up one screen. Stay on this path until reaching another ledge and jump down. One screen left from here is a cave with a Deku Scrub that will refill Link’s seed satchel if he agrees that the song is good. Outside, continue along the path north and then around to the location of the Moblin’s Keep. The Great Moblin will notice Link and begin firing his canons at him. Quickly retreat right one screen into the Sunken City. Ricky will comment that it “smells like medicine” here and leave.
Optional: Navigating the Natzu Prairie with Ricky
Upon entering the Natzu River, walk right one screen and use Dimitri’s Flute to call him. Hop on Dimitri, enter the water, and swim right thee screens to the location of a large waterfall spilling out of a cave. From here, there are a few optional places Link can explore… By heading down one screen, Link can reach the base of the waterfall. Dimitri can swim up the waterfall and into the cave, where a Deku Scrub will refill Link’s Seed Satchel for agreeing that his song is a good tune. Outside of the Deku Scrub’s cave, swim back down one screen to the base of the waterfall, then head down and left one screen each to reach a small isle. Up one screen on this isle is a staircase leading to a Great Fairy Fountain. Leave the Great Fairy Fountain and head right and up one screen each, back to the base of the waterfall, then continue up and right one screen each to find a strip of land to the north some steps leading up to it. Head back left one screen along this path to reach a staircase leading to a short cave area where Link must cross the moving green tiles to reach a chest containing 50 Rupees. Now, on to the Sunken City. Leave the cave and head back along the strip of land to the steps. Ride Dimitri across the water to reach the area of land on the right and continue right one screen. Link will need to take out the Power Bracelet and lift Dimitri and throw him across the pits to get him across to the other side of the path. Jump over and ride Dimitri down one screen, where the Great Moblin will notice Link and start firing bombs at him. Simply head right one screen from here into the Sunken City.
Optional: Navigating the Natzu River with Dimitri
Swipe the red lever to connect the bridge on the left, providing a shortcut back toward Spool Swamp. Head across the bridge and left one screen, then call Moosh using his flute and ride back right one screen with him. Right from the start, Link can reach a Great Fairy Fountain by heading up, right, and down one screen each to reach a staircase leading down to it. Back at the screen with the bridge, head right one screen and fly over the pits with Moosh, then continue right another screen. Fly over the pits here to reach the narrow path on the right, then stay on the path right and down one screen each. The key here is to make it to the upper path on the right heading north, so use Moosh to fly to the small pieces of land amongst the pits to give him the chance to take off again. Once on the path, head up one screen to find a staircase leading underground where a Deku Scrub will refill Link’s Seed Satchel if he likes his song. Outside, chop down the bush and fly over the pits to reach the narrow path on the right, then continue right and up one screen each. Keep heading right for two screens, clearing the last set of pits, and then down one to the edge of the Moblin’s Keep. Avoid the bombs the Great Moblin will start shooting and head right one screen into the Sunken City, where the sight of all the water will frighten Moosh away.
Optional: Navigating the Natzu Wasteland with Moosh
4.3 The Sunken City
Equip the Roc’s Feather and jump across the stream of deep water to reach the more shallow area, then head down one screen. Follow this path of shallow water right two screens and up one, then swipe the Gale Seeds down from the tree.
Head back along the path toward the entrance to the city, where Link will come across Dimitri the Dodongo washed ashore. The three kids surrounding him claim to be Sunken City’s Safety Patrol and believe Dimitri to be an enemy. Walk up and speak with the kid in green on the left, who requests Bombs in exchange for leaving Dimitri alone. The kid will take all of Link’s Bombs before running off with the rest of the crew. Speak with Dimitri, who will thank Link and offer his assistance.
Hop on Dimitri and go up two screens and right one. Have Dimitri swim up the waterfall here and continue up another screen. From here, two waterfalls can be seen emptying out to the north. Be careful not to bump into the three Fin Piranha‘s swimming around and head up the up the waterfall on the left into a cave.
Dismount Dimitri and cross the bridge on the right, leading to four statues. First, push the statue on the lower- right RIGHT once. Then, push the statue on the upper-left UP and RIGHT once each. Finally, push the statue on the lower-left UP once and RIGHT twice. Charge a Spin Attack and release it while standing in the middle of the four statues, quickly striking each of them and causing a set of stairs to appear to the right. Jump over the water onto the stairs and grab the Master's Plaque from the chest, then hop off the ledge below and ride Dimitri back out of the cave.
Now, swim down the waterfall, then up the one on the right and enter the next cave. Hop off Dimitri onto the area of land on the right and speak with the Master Diver, who will give Link instructions on how to become his pupil. Having already completed this task, the Master Diver will notice the Master’s Plaque in Link’s possession and reward him with the Zora's Flippers. He will also give Link a tip on how to reach Mt. Cucco through a secret passage in the city.
Check out the land mass on the left side of the Master Diver’s cave to find a chest containing 50 Rupees!
Optional: Treasure in the Master's Cave
Hop back on Dimitri and ride out of the cave, heading down one screen, then continue down another screen and down the another waterfall to the location of a tree stump. Now that Link has the Flippers, he no longer needs Dimitri to cross the deep waters of the Sunken City, so he may be left behind from here. Before heading to Mt. Cucco, there are a few more optional quests to complete…
Use the tree stump to change the season to Summer and head right one screen. Climb the vines on the left and enter the cave, then grab the Gasha Seed from the chest at the upper-section. Back outside, climb the vines on the right and swim up one screen. Chop down the bush next to the house to reveal a hidden Soft Soil location which Link can use to plant his newly-obtained Gasha Seed.
Optional: Gasha Seed & Soft Soil Location #8 - Sunken City (Tier 1-2)
Swim to the middle screen at the southern border of Sunken City. In the middle of the shallow path of water is a single tile of deep water which Link can dive down in to reach a cave below. Immediately swim left and jump off the ledge to a chest containing a Gasha Seed.
Optional: Another Gasha Seed in Sunken City
Use a Gale Seed and warp to Horon Village, then head up and right one screen each, then up two into the Maku Tree’s area. Enter the Maku Tree and climb the stairs at the far end of the room. Follow the path to reach a platform high on the Maku Tree’s trunk, where a Gasha Seed can be obtained.
Optional: Gasha Seed at the Maku Tree
Use a Gale Seed to warp back to Sunken City. Head clockwise and exit the city via the western entrance. Link will have to backtrack through the path that led him to the city, which again will differ depending on the animal companion he has. Ricky’s path is the easiest and can be done without having to actually call for his help. From outside of the entrance to the Sunken City, simply head up one, left two, and down three screens, then right one last screen to reach the entrance to the Moblin’s Keep. For Dimitri’s path, head up and left one screen each, then use Dimitri’s Flute to call him. Hop on Dimitri and head left one and down three screens along the path on the right side of the waterfall. Dismount Dimitri and walk right one screen to reach the Moblin’s fortress. Moosh’s path is a little more difficult as it requires flying over a bunch of those pits again. After leaving Sunken City, head up one screen and call Moosh. Hop on and fly over the pits and head left two screens and down one. Clear the bushes on the right and head down one screen, then do the same here taking the rightmost path down another screen. Dismount Moosh and walk right one screen to arrive at the fortress. Walk across the bridge and swim through the water to reach the stairs leading up to the keep, then continue up two screens to reach the keep’s entrance. Inside, there will be two Sworded Red Pig Moblins keeping guard, so take them out and climb the staircase in the center of the room. Here, a battle with Great Moblin will ensue. The Great Moblin will walk back-and-forth along the ledge, picking up large bombs from the stash behind him and throwing them at Link. Use the Power Bracelet to lift the bombs and throw them back at the Great Moblin so that they explode on him. The more damage dealt, the faster the Great Moblin will move, hitting his peak speed after getting hit 5 times. The key to defeating the Great Moblin is to throw a bomb back and have it explode right when he is picking up another from the stash. This will cause the Great Moblin to drop the bomb behind him, detonating all the bombs and resulting in an explosion that will bring down the Moblin’s Keep. After their defeat, the Great Moblin and his troops will retreat, leaving a chest behind containing the fifth Piece of Heart!
Optional: Piece of Heart #5: Bringing Down the Moblin's Keep
After bringing down the Moblin’s Keep, Link will find the Great Moblin and two members of his crew in a small house in the lower-right hand corner of Sunken City. It is in this house that the Great Moblin is found once again making bombs in hopes of getting enough money to rebuild his great Keep. Link can drop a Bomb or Ember Seed on the stack of bombs in the corner, causing them to ignite and eventually explode. Link can drop a Bomb or Ember Seed on the stack of bombs in the corner, causing them to ignite and eventually explode. This will destroy the small house and cause the Moblins to retreat, only to return some time later to rebuild the house and resume making bombs. Staying in the house during the explosion will kill Link, resulting in a Game Over. However, Link can leave the house before the bombs detonate to avoid death and see the Moblins running away after the house is brought down. This can be repeated a second time, but by the third attempt, the Moblins will catch on to Link’s deeds and lock him in the house during the explosion prior to running off, having the same effect if Link stays in the house during the explosion.
Optional: Bombing the Great Moblin... again.
Head back to Sunken City and follow the path clockwise to the northwest corner, one screen above the entrance. If the season is not Summer, swim right one screen and change it using the tree stump, then come back left one screen. Swim up the narrow path of water between the rocks and dive down here to enter an underwater passage. Swim through it left one screen, defeating the Cheep-Cheeps along the way. At the left side of this next screen, swim up and out of the underwater cave to emerge in Mt. Cucco.
4.4 Mt. Cucco
Climb the vines growing up the wall and head up, right, and up one screen each. Ignore the Crow that will fly in from the left side of the screen and walk up the long flight of stairs up one screen. Circle around to the left and jump off the ledge below and Link will land into a portal to Subrosia.
Hop over the lava onto the land mass above and two Subrosians will run out from the right, bumping into Link and causing him to drop his Roc’s Feather. The Subrosians will take it upon themselves to trade Link the Fool's Ore for his Roc’s Feather before taking off to the west.
Walk left one screen and enter the house belonging to the Strange Brothers who took Link’s feather. Follow them to the left side of the house and exit. During this sequence, Link must hide behind trees and other objects as he follows the Strange Brothers to their destination. This is similar to following Rosa earlier in Chapter 2, though quite a bit more difficult as the Brothers will often take separate paths and walk around the most obvious objects Link can hide behind.
Make sure to stay out of view while heading through the next few screens, walking around the trees and rocks to avoid being noticed, until ultimately reaching a point where the Strange Brothers will bury the Roc’s Feather in a rather obvious tile of soil. Take out the Shovel and dig up the feather once they are gone, then head back through the Strange Brother’s house and out the other side.
Link can re-enter the Strange Brother’s house to repeat the sequence, following them to their burial spot to obtain either a Gasha Seed or 50 Ore Chunks each time. Note that the Strange Brothers will change up their search patterns, often resulting in a more difficult sequence. Just make sure to use the objects on the screen to avoid their field of view. Pegasus Seeds may come in handy when trying to avoid the Brother’s unexpected movement.
Optional: More Treasure from the Strange Brothers
From outside of the Strange Brother’s House, head right two and up one screen. Enter the house here and hop across the pool of lava in the upper-left corner to obtain a Gasha Seed.
Optional: Gasha Seed in Subrosia Village
Back at the portal that brought Link from Mt. Cucco, head right one screen and hop across the river of lava and head down the staircase to a cave area. Jump across the moving platforms and continue right one screen, then across the vertically-moving platform to the ladder on the other side.
On the far right side of the cave is a ladder leading down to an area where a Gasha Seed can be found.
Optional: Gasha Seed in the Cave
Exit the cave to arrive at the Temple of Seasons’ Spring Tower. Inside, hop across the streams of lava to the staircase and then continue on up the tower to the altar of the Spirit of Spring, who will bless the Rod of Seasons with the Power of Spring!
With nothing left to do in Subrosia for now, backtrack out of the Spring Tower and through the underground cave to the portal and head back to Mt. Cucco.
The seemingly unreachable cave to the left of the portal to Subrosia contains a Great Fairy Fountain inside. To reach it, use the tree stump at the base of the mountain to change the season to Winter, then climb the staircase as if going to the portal, only this time jump over the pit and off the ledge on the left. Link will land on a pile of snow from which he can now enter the cave.
Optional: Mt. Cucco Great Fairy Fountain
Hop off the ledge down one screen to the tree stump and use it to change the season to Spring. Walk right one screen, where a winged blue bear named Moosh can be found sniffing around for some Spring Bananas. Chop through the flowered bush and walk up one screen along the path. Take out the Power Bracelet and lift the Flying Cucco found here, then keep pressing button assigned to the bracelet to have it fly higher. When the Cucco reaches the edge of the mountain on the right, Link will hop off onto the ledge.
Walk up one screen and enter the cave. Using the Roc’s Feather, hop across the pits to the staircase above, being mindful of the Keese throughout the cave that will try and knock Link into a bottomless pit. Outside, swipe the Spring Banana down from the tree.
From the Spring Banana tree, head down one screens by hopping off the ledge, then continue onto the next lower ledge where another cave entrance is found. Inside, a green platform will quickly circle an area of land in the center of the room. Ride the platform, slashing Link’s sword along the way to clear any Keese that may knock him into a pit, and step off onto the left side of the middle area. Walk onto the switch to have a Magical Ring fall on the other side of the rocks, then ride the platform as before to reach it. This ring will appraise as the Green Joy Ring.
Optional: Green Joy Ring
Bring the Spring Bananas to Moosh, who will thank Link by offering his assistance. Head left four screens, passing a couple of easily avoidable Deku Scrubs along the way, into the Goron Mountain region. The season here will change to Winter, creating piles of snow blocking the way west. Head up one screen and use Moosh to fly across the pits to reach up the Dragon Key on the other side, then fly back out and down one screen. Before heading back east, there is an optional quest that can now be completed to get an upgraded Ring Box.
Use the Shovel or Moosh’s ground-pound attack to bypass the snow piles and head left one screen. Bomb the cracked wall here to reveal a cave entrance, then head inside. If you need some Bombs, try digging up the small piles of to find more. Follow the path, avoiding the Green Zols along the way, and head up the staircase at the end. Walk right one screen and go up the stairs here, then head left a screen at the top and enter the cave. Watch out for the Spiny Beetles hiding beneath the bushes in this room and head up the staircase at the far end. Back outside, now at the eastern peak of Goron Mountain, head right one screen, where two Blue Lynels will be prowling about. Follow the path on the lower side of the rocks left one screen, then cross the bridge and jump off the ledge on the far left. Inside the cave where Link lands is a red Goron who will give Link the upgraded L-2 Ring Box! Exit the cave and jump off the ledge down one screen to return to the base of Goron Mountain.
Optional: Through the Caves for the L-2 Ring Box
Head directly east until reaching the tree stump below the Subrosian portal in Mt. Cucco. Change the season back to Spring, then head left three screens. The large orange flower here is called a Blast Bloom, and will launch Link up onto the ledge above. Once there, continue up one and right two screens, being mindful of the many Like-Likes and Red Pig Moblins along the way. Link will now be at the entrance to the fourth dungeon, although it cannot be entered just yet.
To the right of the waterfall, dive down in the upper-right corner of the pond to reach an underwater cave area. Swim right one screen and continue to the far upper-right section to obtain the Pyramid Jewel, then swim back out of the underwater cave to the waterfall.
Use the tree stump to change the season to Winter, then head left two screens across the icy path. Walk up the steps and hop off the ledge on the right onto the path of snow and follow it right one screen to a cave entrance.
Inside, jump across the pit to reach the path on the upper-side of the rocks, then toss the stone aside and continue left one screen. At the upper-left section of this room, climb the staircase to another cave area above, then circle around the large pit in the middle of the room to the lower-side to reach a staircase leading outside to the peak of Mt. Cucco.
Walk right one screen and lift the Blue Cucco, rapidly pressing the A button until it reaches the ledge on the opposite side. Walk right another screen and insert the Dragon Key into the keyhole, stopping the water from coming out of the mountain and revealing the entrance to Level 4.
Head left one screen and jump off the ledge, then go immediately right one screen and use the tree stump to change the season to Summer. With the way cleared and a path of vines now leading to it, Link can finally enter the Dancing Dragon Dungeon.
4.5 Dancing Dragon Dungeon
From the dungeon’s entrance, swim across the water toward the upper-left corner of the room and head up one screen through the passage. Two Shrouded Stalfos monitor this room, so avoid or defeat them and push the second block from the left (or the next-to-last block on the right) aside to reach a chest containing 10 Bombs.
On the left side of the room, hop into the minecart, which follows the track left one room. When passing along the left side of the blue lever in the center of the room, hit it with Link’s sword to change the track’s path, while the minecart will continue up one room before stopping. Here, three Keese and two more Shrouded Stalfos will be roaming about. In the middle of the wall on the right, bomb the cracked area to reveal a passage and head through it right one screen.
There are several switches surrounding a group of vases in the center of the room. Toss aside two of the vases in the middle row, then push the remaining ones onto the switches. Stand on the last switch and a Small Key will fall into the center of the room. Grab the key and head back left one screen.
Hop into the minecart, riding down one screen and now along the path to the room on the left. Swim across the water to the left side of the room, avoiding the Water Tektites swimming around, and be wary of the Green Zols that will appear when nearing the blue statue. Push the statue all the way UP and LEFT onto the button and head through the now-opened doorway up one screen.
Swim across the water to the upper-left corner of this room. There are several ways to move the purple blocks here to reach the staircase, but one possible options is to push the second block in the vertical row LEFT, then push the one that was below it DOWN. Head down the staircase to a winding path filled with blocks.
Be wary of a new enemy here that will appear along the path, the Green Wizzrobe , while also keeping an eye out for the Keese flying around. Follow the path all the way clockwise to the lower-right corner of the room and head down one screen through the passage. Continue along the path to reach a passage heading right one screen, where a chest containing the Dungeon Map can be found.
Head back left one screen and straight along the lower side of the room to a staircase leading to a dungeon area. Use the Roc’s Feather to hop along the moving platforms and head right one screen. Here, a series of small blue platforms will begin to fade in-and-out.
The image above shows which blocks appear first (1), second (2), and third (3) in the sequence, as well as the path for crossing them safely to the other side. The following steps describe the process in text:
– First, walk onto the platform that appears next to the ledge Link stands on when entering the screen, then jump from it onto the platform on the right.
– Next, jump onto the platform just behind Link as it materializes, then onto the platform up and to the right when it appears.
– Wait a moment for another platform to appear straight to the right of this one and jump over to it, then continue heading right when the next set appears and further onto the ledge on the right. Climb the ladder to exit the dungeon area.
Link will be in a dimly-lit room with an irregular path surrounded by bottomless pits leading to a chest. Though the path is slightly visible already, a torch in the center of the room may be lit to help see more clearly. Carefully walk along the path to reach the chest containing a Small Key.
Now, Link must backtrack all the way to the dungeon’s entrance and continue through the dungeon’s eastern section.
Begin by heading back down the stairs in to the dungeon area from before, where Link must cross the blue platforms again. As before, the image above will reveal the easiest path to take, as well as the following text description:
– Start by jumping onto the closest blue platform when it appears, then drop down onto the one below it to the left a moment later, and further onto the one below this one.
– When the platform starts to disappear, step onto the one materializing beside it to the right.
– As the platforms begin to change, jump onto the one appears to the left and up from the current on Link stands on, the jump onto the next one that appears below and to the left and onto the leftmost ledge from there.
Continue left one screen and cross the green platforms to the ladder and leave the dungeon area.
Follow the path straight up one screen, then continue along until reaching the staircase in the upper-left corner of the room. Push aside the purple blocks and defeat the three Water Tektites swimming around to unlock the passage at the bottom of the room. A good strategy here is to charge a Spin Attack and wait for the Tektites to swim close to the edge, then release to take them out.
Continue down one screen through the opened passage and hop into the minecart in the lower-right corner. Strike the blue lever as before when the minecart passes toward the room above, changing the track to its original orientation. Hop back into the minecart and ride down and right one screen each, then head down one screen to the first room of the dungeon.
Swim across to the right side of the room and head right one screen. Be careful not to bump into the three Anti-Fairies swarming this room while jumping over the spiked sections of floor toward the right side. Bomb the cracked wall on the right and head through the passage right one screen.
Defeat the three Green Stalfos and Keese in this room, allowing the single purple block on the far right side of the room to be pushed in any direction to have a chest appear on the middle tile. Open the chest to retrieve the Compass.
Head back left one screen and immediately up one to a water-filed room with spiked rollers moving back-and-forth along the water’s surface. While swimming toward the top of the room, use the B button to dive down and avoid being hit by the rollers. At the top of this room, head up one screen through the passage.
Link will be rushed by a Spiked Beetle upon entering, so be careful not to get knocked into the Like-Like waiting to the left. Take the enemies out, as well as the Keese flying around as they can make the room difficult to navigate. The intended path to reach the minecart at the upper-left section of the room is to circle the path counter-clockwise and use the Roc’s Feather to cross along the cracked tiles between the bottomless pits. However, it is possible to reach the other side of the purple blocks seen when Link enters by simply standing at the end of them and jumping across while holding UP and LEFT to reach the platform. Hop into the minecart, which will ride up one room.
Swipe the blue lever in this room as the minecart passes by, continuing on right one room before emptying Link out. Immediately hop back into the minecart and ride left two rooms. Defeat the two Like-Likes and Water Tektite in this room to have a Small Key fall from the ceiling into the pool of water in the center. Dive down and grab the key, then hop back into the minecart and ride back right two rooms.
Head toward the right side of the room and pass through the locked block, then continue right one screen. The three Shrouded Stalfos, one of which is known as a Sworded Stalfos, in this room must be defeated to have a set of steps appear on the upper ledge. Grab some Pegasus Seeds from the vases on the right side of the room if needed, then climb the steps onto the ledge. Use a Pegasus Seed and the Roc’s Feather to jump across the long sections of bottomless pits while heading left one screen along the ledge. At the far end, head down the staircase to the first floor below.
Head over to the steps on the right and push the middle block DOWN to get through. Simply avoid the Red Zol andOrange Stalfos in this room and hop into the minecart, riding left two rooms before emptying out. Be mindful of the two Sworded Stalfos here that will pursue Link, as well as the Anti-Fairie bouncing around, while heading toward the raised section in the upper-left corner. Climb the steps to the ledge and grab a Small Key from the chest. Also in this room is a Business Scrub just to the right of this ledge who will sell Link 10 Ember Seeds for the price of 20 rupees, although the upcoming boss fight will supply Link with plenty, so save those rupees!
Walk down one screen through the passage to a room filled with spiked floors and a couple of Anti-Fairies. Jump across the spiked floor onto the safe tiles while heading toward down into the room where a fight with the dungeon’s mini-boss, Agunima, will begin.
Agunima will create two copies of himself and move into one of four formations around the room: A triangular pattern (two below and one above) in the center of the room, and upside-down triangular pattern in the center of the room, and either a vertical row of three on the left or right side of the room. Once in position, Agunima and his clones will fully appear before firing energy blasts towards Link. They will then disappear and alternate formations before appearing again. Defeating Agunima requires lighting the torches in the center using Ember Seeds (which can be found in the bushes around the room), revealing the shadow beneath the real Agunima, and slashing him with the sword. Keep a Spin Attack charged to unleash on Agunima when the wizard drops his transparency and fully forms, making the most of the opportunity to attack. While it can be somewhat difficult to keep the torches lit while trying to defeat Agunima, a good strategy is to light them right before the third stops in position at the very beginning. This will allow enough time for the torches to last through two Agunima appearances before going out again, at which point they can be immediately lit to get the same result.
Once Agunima is defeated, the doorways once locked above, below, and to the right of the room will open. The room to the right contains a Wise Old Man who reveals “What you seek is in the eye”, referring to the location of the Boss Key in a later room.
Back in the mini-boss room, head down one screen and hop into the minecart, riding right one and down one screen each along the leftmost tracks. One the minecart empties Link out, head down one screen into a room with two new enemies: A Beamos and three Orange Stalfos. These enemies do not need to be defeated, so try to avoid them and continue left one screen through the locked door.
Link will be in a room filled with statues and cracked floors along a narrow path to a chest. Use a Pegasus Seed, then push the purple statue LEFT, causing a chest to appear on the ledge above before the cracked floor tiles start caving in. Rush along the path to the chest, either slashing away or jumping over the Keese flying around along the way. Open the chest to obtain the Slingshot, then jump off the ledge and head back right and up one room each to the minecart.
Hop into the minecart and ride up and left one screen each. Head up three screens, past the mini-boss room and the room with the spiked floors, back to the room with the Business Scrub. Equip the Slingshot with Ember Seeds and ride the minecart right one room. Fire at the unlit torches until lighting them all and a chest will appear on the ledge at the lower section of the room.
Ride the minecart back to the Business Scrub room, then head down one screen to the room with the spiked floors. Jump over the spikes and head towards the right side, then climb the stairs and follow the path here up and right one room each. Open the chest here to receive a Small Key.
Head back along the path to the spiked floor room, then continue down two screens. Make sure the Slingshot is equipped and ride the minecart right one screen. Shoot at each lever as the minecart rides along the track, changing its orientation to lead along the rightmost path. Once the minecart empties Link out, head up and right one screen each.
Circle around the room to the far upper-right side. Power-up with a Pegasus Seed and use the Roc’s Feather to jump across the gaps, heading left to a ledge. Continue up one screen through the locked block into a room filled with water and a few enemies. In the center of this room is an area of floor resembling a skull. As hinted at by the Wise Old Man earlier, diving into below the water in the right “eye” of the skull-shaped floor reveals the hidden Boss Key!
Now, head back down one screen. Toss one of the vases aside and jump across the gap for a shortcut out of this room and head left and down one screen each. Ride the minecart back along the track up and left one screen each. At the lower half of the room, push the block to the right of the Blade Trap DOWN, stopping it from shooting towards Link while standing on the path below. Walk along this path and fire the Slingshot at the switch, changing the orientation of the track above, and ride the minecart now left one room.
Defeat the three Red Wizzrobes in this room to open the doorway above and head through it up one screen. Defeat or avoid the Red Zols while dodging the Beamos’ attacks and go through the locked block at the top of the room, then continue down the staircase to the B1F level of the dungeon.
Walk right towards the gap in the room and shoot Ember Seeds at the torches on the other side, lighting them and causing a bridge across the gap to appear. Continue right one screen to a room filled with vases, two Red Wizzrobes, and a Sworded Stalfos. Stock up on health and supplies using the vases and continue on up one screen via the path in the upper-right corner of the room.
Step onto the green platform and ride it around the room above the bottomless pit, swinging Link’s sword to dispatch of the Keese that may knock him off the platform, until it reaches the area of floor where the doorway to the boss’ lair can be seen. Head through the doorway into the domain of Gohma, the boss of the Dancing Dragon Dungeon.
As Link walks into the room, the shadow of Gohma will follow him until reaching his location, at which point the creature will fall from the ceiling. Gohma will use its large pincer to attempt to grab Link and smash him into the floor before tossing him aside, dealing major damage. It will also use its pincer to protect its eye against projectiles. Gohma will mainly walk from side-to-side, sometimes moving faster for a moment while attempting to grab Link if he comes close.
The first step to defeating Gohma is to get rid of the creature’s large pincer. The risk of getting close to Gohma and getting grabbed is too high not to use Spin Attacks here, cutting down on the time it takes to knock the pincer off. Afterward, Gohma will continue to move about the room, now picking up speed more frequently. When Gohma’s eye is open, use the Slingshot to fire either Scent or Ember seeds at its eye to damage the boss. A good time to attack is when Gohma stops to spit out small larvae that will bounce around the room towards Link. These larvae will cause contact damage, while the red ones in particular will act like Red Gels and slow Link’s movement while attached to him. However, they are relatively harmless and actually provide a good way to restock health and seeds when defeated. After enough successfully shots to Gohma’s eye, the boss will be defeated.
Pick up the Heart Container left behind by Gohma and head right one screen. Climb the altar to claim the fourth Essence of Nature, the Soothing Rain!
