Collection Spotlight: BigGerudoNose
Posted on March 27 2014 by Tyler Tag
Another week, another Collection Spotlight. This week brings us Madeline, or as commenters who are using the comment sections as metaphorical kingdoms know her, “BigGerudoNose.” Madeline tells her story through nostalgic stories that began her love with the Zelda series. Jump inside in order to read her stories, see her pictures, and see this week’s Collection Selection.
I’m Madeline from New Hampshire. My Zelda adventure started when I was nine years old and received my first console for Christmas: a special edition Nintendogs DS lite. That same day, my younger sister got the Special Edition Zelda DS with Phantom Hourglass. I remember watching her play it and thinking it was the coolest thing ever! She let me borrow it, and it was the most fun I ever had.
Two years later I finished Phantom Hourglass, and I started to wonder if there were any other Zelda games out there. Soon after I saw the commercial for Spirit Tracks. It was not until a few years later that I became a huge fan and started collecting. School had started and I gained a friend through the shared topic of Zelda. She told me about Skyward Sword, which was about to be released.
After the completion of Skyward Sword, I knew I wanted to play all the games in the series, which was where my collecting really began. I searched at used-games stores and on eBay. I think the best deal I made was when I bought Oracle of Ages off some kid in one of my classes for $7, while Oracle of Ages went for $20 on eBay.
Each piece of my collection has its own story: where I got it, who was with me, how I felt when I started it, etc. This goes for Phantom Hourglass especially since it was my first. I can still remember where I was when I defeated a boss or got past a spot where I was stuck. That is probably why it’s my favorite game.
I think my favorite items would have to be the Wii U bundle and the backpack. The Wii U because I’m proud of myself that I managed to save up enough money to buy it on my own (I’m still in school, what can you expect?). The backpack because I always feel a sense of pride wearing it around school, plus it looks super cool!
Games and Consoles:
Books, CDs and Posters:
Miscellaneous:
As for things to add in the future, I’d really like to get my hands on physical copies of The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, Majora’s Mask and A Link to the Past.
Weekly Collection Selection:
This week’s Collection Selection follows Madeline’s future additions. My past selections have been very specified items however its important to remember that some of our fans and collectors do not have all the original games yet and that is okay. In response I will just select a few of my favorite titles.
The Legend of Zelda: this beautiful gold cartridge comes with an storage sleeve.
The Adventure of Link: this auction comes with the original manual so you can read up the official description of the game.
For the completionist collector – A Link to the Past, complete in box, which is in very good condition.
Lastly, my favorite Zelda title, Ocarina of Time.
These are just a couple that are available, but I just picked these to act as a jumping off point for further searching. Happy hunting and I hope you find an addition that makes your collection even more unique.
In closing I ask, would you like to see your collection spotlighted on the website? Do you want to share how you got into Zelda and show off the items you are proud of owning?
Send me an email at tyler@zeldadungeon.net. Include some pictures, a little background of who you are, how you got into Zelda, your first Zelda game, a listing of the items you have now, what you hope to own in the future, and your favorite item.
Please do not be frightened or discouraged when you see these showcases. I’m receiving emails from collectors who are hesitant to have their collections featured even though they are quite good.
Also feel free to comment on whatever you like. A personal favorite of mine was Madeline’s stories, how about you? What type of items would you like to see in the Collection Selection? List it below and I will attempt to find it for sale!
