Replay_windwaker_600Each week the editors of Game Informer revisit the games of yesterday in an online video series called Replay. Coinciding with the recent digital release of The Wind Waker HD, which has already been showcased in one of their Test Chamber video previews, the Game Informer crew has chosen to take a look at the original GameCube version of the game in Replay‘s newest episode.

Hit the jump to reminisce with Game Informer about adventuring across the flooded remains of Hyrule.

Game Informer’s editors appreciate the little details in The Wind Waker that combine to make it such a memorable entry in the series. Andrew Reiner, for instance, fondly remembers snapping photos across the Great Sea for the sometimes-overlooked Nintendo Gallery. Meanwhile, Dan Ryckert, a connoisseur when it comes to goofy humor, appreciates the comical “Sploosh” sounds Salvatore makes during the Sinking Ships mini-game. Surprisingly, none of the editors on hand complained much about the game’s contentious sailing, though Ryckert missed the quicker pace of the HD remake’s Swift Sail. He does suggest, however, that the flying in Skyward Sword was actually worse than The Wind Waker’s sailing, because the sky around Skyloft  had fewer “fun little islands” to explore.

Overall, the people at Game Informer seem to be extremely enthusiastic Wind Waker fans. Don’t take my word for it though; watch the video below to see for yourself.

Game Informer has also done complete Let’s Play-style playthroughs of The Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past in a series they call Super Replay. I highly recommend checking them out for their fun and insightful commentaryAlternately, if you enjoy watching people suffer through hilariously inept games, Game Informer’s Super Replays of the obscure PS1 train wrecks Overblood (pictured in the screenshot on the left) and Cyberia might be right up your alley.
