How much would Ganon’s Castle cost to buy?

CastleAdmit it, if you had the opportunity to live in a castle you’d jump at the chance but living in Ganon’s Castle might not be your first choice. It’s dark, gloomy, (somehow) hovering over lava and there are a few death traps in there. However, if that type of castle did happen to take your interest and you wanted to buy it, how much would it cost? Well, be prepared to beg the bank for one massive mortgage! The people over at movoto.com have been able to work out the real life cost of the castle and it’s not what you’d call a bargain!

Take the jump to see just how much it would set you back!

There are three things required when valuing the castle; size, location and comparable properties. First of all, the size. Using adult Link as a guide they were able to work out the area of the interior of the castle. Though it appears to be massive from the outside, due to the layout of the floors and rooms on the inside, the square footage inside isn’t as much as it you’d think. They worked it out to be 42,094 square feet, which is around 3,910.66 square meters, so it’s still big but there’s a lot of wasted space.

layout

Aside from the fact they missed out the actual chamber the Light Barrier is generated from (on the left of the picture), it’s easy to see from that map why the square footage of the castle isn’t as much as it could have been but next is the location. Supposedly, if the land of Hyrule was our world, Ganon’s Castle would be placed in Tuscany, Italy as it has a lot of locations that matched Hyrule’s. There’s even a mountain in Tuscany called Mont Blanc but, due to around 100 climbers losing their lives there every year, it is referred to by mountaineers as Death Mountain. That’s me convinced!

Now all that’s left is to find a comparable properties and, luckily, there just happens to be a 1,000  year old castle in Tuscany which is up for sale. The castle is being sold for $1, 372 per square foot (around £884 per sqaure foot). As we know Ganon’s Castle is 42,094 square feet, that would mean the cost of Ganon’s Castle would be $57,752,968 (which is around £37,214,337)

That’s one expensive castle! Thing is, if you wanted to buy the castle before Ganon changed the layout, buying the castle as it appears during Young Link’s time would cost you $113,807,400 (about £73,334,188) and at least Ganon’s Castle has under floor heating! If you had the money, would you buy it? Or would you rather buy a nice house in Kakariko Village? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
