OverClocked Remix: Majora’s Mask “Shikashi’s Dream”
Posted on August 24 2012 by ralphpotato
Today I present a new addition to the incredible library of remixes at OverClocked Remix. This piece by a new contributor, anterroir (David Enterlein), is a radical take on the Astral Observatory theme from Majora’s Mask. Though the remix doesn’t seem to parallel the melody that it’s initially based on, the overall feeling is similar to the one you get hearing the original music, but much more intense. Not to say that the music is intense, on the contrary, it’s very mellow, but that feeling is much more refined. Hit the jump for a listen!
The most important part of this remix is that it is able to capture what is presented with both audio and visuals from the game in only audio. First, for comparison, you might have a refresher on the original, in game music.
After that, spend some time with anterroir’s composition. If you aren’t caught on initially, I promise it will get better.
With each listen, the artist’s intentions become clearer and the subtleties of the music become more apparent. At first when listening, I didn’t think this sounded much like the original theme at all, but during the second time through, the arrangement of everything made more sense. After I understood that, the climax towards the end was much more meaningful.
This piece alone makes me excited for the next work by anterroir. I’ve recently become a huge fan of OverClocked Remix, and these are the kind of pieces that make the entire organization worth it. I hope you enjoyed “Shikashi’s Dream” as much as I did!
