Zelda Marathon month continues and this morning the 4/48 Zelda Marathon began their own marathon. They are currently playing through The Wind Waker as they raise money for the Child’s Play Charity. Historically, the 4/48 team has played through the major 3D console Zelda titles in 48 hours, but this time around they are doing something a bit different. The marathon will last a little bit longer and they are playing some additional Zelda games. Anyway, you can make the jump to watch the the video embed. ATLANTA, GEORIGA – November 13, 2011 – On Saturday, December 17, gamers from the Atlanta region will host the fourth annual 4/48 Zelda Marathon for Child’s Play Charity. In 2010, the event raised nearly $2,500 for Child’s Play during the Christmas season. The charity provides books, toys and games to over 70 children’s hospitals worldwide.

The event is broadcast live online, and begins with a group of gamers attempting to complete a handful of titles from Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda series of video games. From there, donations to Child’s Play can extend the duration of the marathon, requiring the group to complete extra games, and enters donors into drawings for a variety of Zelda-themed prizes. The 2010 event clocked in at over 64 hours, during which viewers could connect with the team through the event’s website and social media like Facebook and Twitter.

This year, the team is expecting to set new records for the event, in both the amount of donations for Child’s Play and the length of the marathon itself. “The marathon could last anywhere from four to six days, depending on how much money we raise for Child’s Play Charity,” says Ryan Adams, an event coordinator, “We’ve also redesigned our rewards system so that donors can see the very tangible impact of what they give on what we play.”

When asked what draws people to events like The 4/48 Zelda Marathon, Peter Sohl, another coordinator for the event, says “The Legend of Zelda series holds significance to millions of people all over the world. The 4/48 Zelda Marathon is our chance to share our love for the series with fellow gamers, and through Child’s Play Charity, we can also share those experiences with others who might not otherwise have the opportunity.”

Child’s Play Charity is a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children through the donation of toys and games to a network of hospitals worldwide. Since its foundation in 2003, the charity has raised over $9 million for children’s hospitals. “Gaming related fundraisers really have endless potential,” says Jamie Dillion, Project Manager at Child’s Play, “from playing everyone’s favorite retro games, to utilizing new technology in creative ways, I know that future fundraisers will do more and more good for the kids.”
