Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Will Not Include Expansion Pass DLC, My Nintendo Store Claims
Posted on April 10 2025 by Julia Wilson

The release of the new Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, offering enhanced graphics, interaction with Zelda Notes, and additional Voice Memories, was revealed at the Switch 2 Direct last week. Nintendo has confirmed that this edition will be a free upgrade for players who already own the game and have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Otherwise, the Switch 2 edition will be $9.99 USD if you already own the game on Switch or $69.99 USD in a physical bundle comprising of Breath of the Wild and an upgrade pack.
However, what isn’t necessarily included in any of the above is the the game’s DLC — The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad. Reddit user raptormelonsite recently reached out to My Nintendo Store UK and asked for clarification, to be advised by a customer service representative that Breath of the Wild‘s Expansion Pass would still be a separate item available for purchase ($19.99 USD) from the Nintendo eShop.
The response from My Nintendo Store UK read:
Thank you for contacting My Nintendo Store
The game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will not include the paid DLCs. If you purchase the Switch 2 version in physical it will arrive in its corresponding game box.
While this statement does not explicitly say so, we surmise that players who have already purchased Breath of the Wild‘s Expansion Pass on the Switch will not need to re-purchase them again for the Switch 2 edition. If that turns out to be the case, players who have not yet purchased the DLC and want to play them on the Switch 2 will need to do so in addition to acquiring Breath of the Wild‘s enhanced edition in one of the ways listed above.
The good news is that Nintendo does confirm that the DLC packs will be compatible with the Switch 2.
Were you expecting The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad to be included with the Switch 2 edition? Or did you think it would still be a separate item? Let us know in the comments below!
