Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Upgrade Packs Confirmed to Cost $9.99 USD

Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Product and Player Experience, Bill Trinen, confirmed the prices of Breath of the Wild’s and Tears of the Kingdom’s Switch 2 upgrade packs while talking to IGN. The interview covered an array of topics relating to the new console and the games announced for it. When asked about the thought process behind pricing of upgrade packs, Trinen included in his answer:
For somebody who has bought Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild, the upgrade packs for those are $9.99 [USD]. And if you happen to be a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member, both of the Zelda upgrade packs are inclusive within that membership.
According to another IGN article, pre-order prices for the physical Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are $69.99 USD and $79.99 USD, respectively. This is consistent with the price of purchasing an upgrade pack and a Switch version of each game at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
The boxed versions of Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition each contain a physical cartridge comprising the original Switch game and the “upgrade pack” game add-on.
The interview did not touch upon the upgrade pack pricing for other “Switch 2 Edition” games such as Metroid Prime 4 or Pokémon Legends: Z-A. We’ll have to wait to find out if the $9.99 USD pricing for the upgrade pack is standard or if each will be individually priced.
What do you think about the price of the Zelda upgrade packs? Will you buy them? Do you think you’ll play them with your Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription? Or are you content with the games as they are on the original Switch? Give us your thoughts down in the comments!

Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to reflect Nintendo’s confirmation that the physical editions of these Switch 2 titles will each include the game and the upgrade pack on the same cartridge.
