A group of Zelda fans recently created an anime-style intro for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for an animation class and posted it as the debut video on the YouTube channel Project RGB. With the distinct style that anime intros have become known for, this video is a showcase of popular characters and locations from Breath of the Wild, backed by an upbeat track from Japanese pop duo YOASOBI. A few depictions of Skyward Sword, as well as the appearance of Ocarina of Time‘s Navi, provide an intriguing proposition that would weave multiple iterations of Link and Zelda into a single cohesive plot.

Although making anime intros for non-anime properties has become somewhat of a meme (as seen in such examples as a King of the Hill spoof of Neon Genesis Evangelion), this video comes across as a love letter to the Zelda series, and potentially serves as another response to the controversial announcement that the upcoming Zelda movie would be live-action. For years, a dedicated portion of the Zelda fan base have been clamoring for an official animated Zelda project — more specifically “Miyazaki-style” — so videos like this are a natural product of that growing sentiment.

Follow Zelda Dungeon for more Zelda content, as well as coverage of other fan animations, like a humorous depiction of Echoes of Wisdom speedruns or Tears of the Kingdom if it was an anime starring Princess Zelda.

So, tell us what you think. Did this video nail that iconic anime intro style? Would you like to see an official Zelda anime? Let us know in the comments below.
