Daily Debate: Will Nintendo Finally Port The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for the Switch 2?
Posted on January 17 2025 by Heather Beard

Yesterday Nintendo dropped a teaser video revealing the highly anticipated Switch 2. The successor to the Nintendo Switch has been speculated upon, and talked about for the last year or so, but none so much as talk of ports for two Zelda games that are very near and dear to the fanbase. Since we are going to learn more about the Switch 2 come April that begs the question that has been asked for many years: will Nintendo finally port Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker?
I have found myself in the “I don’t care if these two games get ported” camp for a very long time. I was blessed to have grown up with both The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess with their original releases on the GameCube and Wii respectively, and their ports to the Wii U. I have always been of the opinion that we would not see new ports of those games because they have already been ported once before. Seeing yesterday’s Switch 2 teaser has me singing a bit of a different tune. I’m starting to hope that we see them ported, especially with Nintendo Switch Online being such a huge part of the Switch system.
Nintendo Switch Online has brought back many games from our respective childhoods from the NES all the way up to the GameBoy Advance. I fervently hope that the Switch 2 brings along an NSO expansion that would let us relive the memories of The Great Sea and The Twilight Realm. One would hope that the Switch 2 would bring along a library of GameCube, Wii, and even Wii U games to Nintendo Switch Online thus ushering in ports of Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker. The Switch 2, we can suppose, will be a more powerful system than its predecessor making it a great candidate to bring over new games and expand NSO. Time will only tell though and we have a bit of a wait until April.
What are your thoughts though? Do you think Nintendo will finally port The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for the Switch 2? Let us know your comments below and be sure to follow us as we follow the latest in Nintendo Switch 2 news.
