Daily Debate: Are You Satisfied with Echoes of Wisdom’s Clothing Options?

In early August, an Echoes of Wisdom trailer — titled the “Traversing Hyrule Trailer” — gave special emphasis to the game’s clothing and accessory options. In total, there are 11 clothing options. Three are collected along the main quest and are variations of Zelda’s regular attire, five are acquired through side quests, and three are amiibo rewards. There are also 28 accessory options, though unlike clothing, they won’t change Zelda’s appearance. Some of these items imbue the Princess with certain abilities, such as a faster swim speed or the ability to speak to cats, while others (some clothing options) are purely aesthetic.
With clothing’s marketing emphasis in mind, did Echoes of Wisdom‘s clothing meet your expectations? Are you satisfied with the quality and quantity of outfits?
As one who typically adorns their character with the basic clothing options (usually the one that’s on the cover art), I played Echoes of Wisdom using the clothing options automatically equipped along the main quest, namely the Disguise and the Royal Travel Attire. As such I didn’t actively pursue alternative clothing options in my first playthrough.
When I did begin my search, however, I was a little disappointed. Marketing had led me to believe that there would be more appearance-changing clothing options available. The 11 clothing options that we got felt quite limited, especially when three are variations of Zelda’s typical garb and the three amiibo rewards are just palette swaps of existing outfits. That leaves us with only five outfits that are truly unique.
A subset of fans took notice that a hoodless variation of the Disguise outfit, which was used in Echoes of Wisdom‘s promotional materials and in some in-game cutscenes, was surprisingly absent. One fan has even started a petition to have it added to the game. While a “hoodless Zelda” wouldn’t be a particularly unique clothing option, it would at least pad out the options a bit and give players the choice to don the outfit that Zelda wears on the cover of the game (which seems like a no-brainer).
So, what do you think? Are you satisfied with Echoes of Wisdom‘s clothing options? What other outfits would you have liked to see? Should the game have included a “hoodless Zelda” option? Let us know in the comments below.
