Daily Debate: After Echoes of Wisdom, Do You Want Zelda To Be Playable in Future Titles?

Warning: Continue at your own risk! This article or the comments below may have spoilers for Echoes of Wisdom!
Echoes of Wisdom is the first true Zelda game that’s featured the series’ namesake, Princess Zelda, as the main, playable character. I absolutely loved the opportunity to help our princess shine throughout her first adventure. I loved the way her own strengths were emphasized through her use of wisdom. This direction really revamped the gameplay, and it gave us a fantastic blend of what we adore about classic Zelda and the new. After having enjoyed the game immensely, I can’t help but hope that we get to see our favorite princess in action again in future Zelda titles.
Don’t get me wrong; I love playing as Link too. He’s iconic. Zelda without Link is shameful, and I’m glad he had his own journey concurrent with Princess Zelda’s first solo adventure. With that being said though, I hope Nintendo listens to fans and allows both of our protagonists to become playable in their next title. It seems that, with every game, Princess Zelda becomes more and more developed and involved in Link’s quest and in the overall story.
There have been multiple chances for Zelda to shine as a playable character that have already passed us by. In fact, her own journey in Skyward Sword was supposed to be playable, but it was eventually cut from the game! (Such a shame.) I also don’t think I’m the only fan out there who has always wished for a title that features Sheik’s journey while she waited for the Hero of Time to return in Ocarina of Time. I have longed to play as Zelda while she faced the Demon King in ancient Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom as well.
Zelda is much more than the damsel in distress she once was, and with the narrative in each game revolving around the need for both herself and a hero to stand against a great evil, I hope we get to play her side of the story from now on. Both characters have equally important roles to play in protecting Hyrule. Echoes of Wisdom is hopefully the gateway that will allow this dream to come to fruition!
Do you want to see Princess Zelda become a staple playable character next to Link? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments!
Chakell (pronounced shuh-kell) is an associate editor for Zelda Dungeon! She has loved The Legend of Zelda series since she was a little girl because of its equal mix of princesses, besting bad guys, and heartfelt stories. Chakell lives in the overall tame state of Utah, but holds onto her childhood hopes to find an adventure in her backyard one day. She has a degree in English and is a full-time editor for a magazine. You can usually find her gaming (obviously), laughing with her husband, taking a long time to tell stories because she keeps getting distracted; getting sucked into books and podcasts; or snuggling her cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
