Zelda Dungeon’s YouTube Team Discusses Open World Exploration in Echoes of Wisdom

The Zelda Dungeon YouTube team is back with another Echoes of Wisdom video! This is the second video in the new series christened “Echoes Chamber,” which is dedicated to discussing a variety of different Echoes of Wisdom topics. While Gooey, McKenna, and Corey discussed the opening of the game in the first episode, they explore the game’s overworld and activities across the open world in this new video.
One of the first topics that Gooey, McKenna, and Corey discuss is the smoothies and smoothie stand side quests. The smoothie creation process is clearly influenced by the cooking from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, though the Echoes of Wisdom mechanic is not as deep or versatile as the cooking in the 3D open world games. Because of relative simplicity of smoothies, they do not become as useful or versatile as cooking is in Breath of the World, though the smoothie recipe side quest is enjoyable. The crew also discusses accessories and outfits, with Gooey comparing the accessories to rings in Dark Souls and charms in Hollow Knight. Gooey, McKenna, and Corey all agree that the Frog Ring, which allows the player to jump higher, is the standout accessory in Echoes of Wisdom.
The crew also discusses the smaller rifts that are scattered across Hyrule. These areas act as smaller challenges for players to complete, similar to the Shrines in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. One of the biggest differences between Shrines and rifts is that rifts retain elements of the region (geography and enemies) that they appear in. Gooey, McKenna, and Corey also praise the freedom that Echoes of Wisdom gives the player in exploring its world. The player can explore most of the regions of Hyrule as soon as they complete the first dungeon, and the process of finding new echoes in different region and dungeons feels very rewarding.
