The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been out for a few weeks, and the speedrunning community anxiously waited until October 10th — the day when the official Speedrun.com leaderboards would go live.

With months of preparation, deliberation, and moderator hiring, the community was raring to go. Avid players had already found insanely fun movement techniques and warping glitches that flip the game on its head.

With the categories established and their respective rulesets described, 36 total categories were revealed upon launch of the leaderboards. The game includes Zelda speedrun staples for its five main categories, some of which being Any%, 100%, and Glitchless. There are also 30 level-specific runs, which include the various mini-games, challenges, and dungeons. This includes categories for the various difficulties of each mini-game and challenge. There already has been stiff competition for the acorn gathering!

Speedrunners have been analyzing potential strategies since the trailers came out. It allowed the game to be broken down to under one hour within a day of its release. At the time of writing, the current world record for Any% is held by Swedish speedrunner Nitroz, with a time of 35m 33s. However, it takes years for a speedrun of a Zelda game to be fully optimized. It remains to be seen how low this number will go.

The hype for this game has already hit some of the world’s biggest speedrunning stages. Games Done Quick (GDQ), the renowned speedrun event organizer, announced Disaster Relief Done Quick 2024 in response to damage caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. An Echoes of Wisdom speedrun is on the schedule as a bonus incentive. If met, the famous gymnast86 will complete the game in less than one hour.

Do you intend to learn any of the Echoes of Wisdom speedruns? Let us know in the comments below if you get your name up on the leaderboards!
