Tekko 2024 Artist Spotlight: The Charming Spark of Wyrmwood Pyro
Posted on July 26 2024 by Nicole Scott
The Zelda Dungeon team had the pleasure of interacting with Haley Beahr of Wyrmwood Pryo at Pittsburgh’s Tekko convention this year! She had one of the most striking tables in the Artist Alley, as it was chock-full of pyrographic pieces. Pyrography is art made with fire on many mediums, but Beahr chose wood for her bases and colored pencils to bring them to life.
“Everything’s better with dragons!” she commented, as many of her art pieces feature these mythological beauties — perfect timing, with 2024 being the Year of the Dragon.
At Wyrmwood Pryo’s table was a stunning Tears of the Kingdom piece, which you can see below. The colors were even more vibrant in-person. Beahr’s stylized charm feels like a perfect fit to make Zelda art. The intricate lines, bolded borders, and color balancing forges a work of art worthy of such a beautiful game. The dark background and clouds have the most captivating and precise spiraled etching.
You can see some in-progress shots on Beahr’s Instagram if you’re a sucker for behind-the-scenes content.
If you want to see another awesome piece, Beahr has a surprisingly classy Tingle creation in her portfolio that was featured in the zine Homemade in Hyrule, Vol. II.
Beahr is completely self-taught, which makes these creations all the more impressive. She works out of Pittsburgh, so if you’re from the area, support local artists!
Hopefully, you’ll find Wyrmwood Pryo at your next local convention! If you can’t wait that long to snag one of these pieces, reach out for a commission on her Instagram, follow on X, watch full-speed burns on YouTube, shop her Etsy, or explore her website.
