Nintendo has announced a new official charging stand for Joy-Con controllers which will be available in North America, Europe, and Japan. The charging stand will charge two Joy-Cons or two Nintendo Entertainment System controllers for the Switch. The Japanese-exclusive Famicom controllers will also be compatible with the charging stand. The release date is October 17th, 2024, and the price of the charging stand is yet to be confirmed for North America and Europe. However, Japanese customers can preorder theirs for 3,300 Yen (approx. $21 USD/£16 GBP).

In an announcement on its Japanese site, Nintendo describes that the stand is a two-way stand because the Joy-Cons can be charged on the stand or off the stand and laying flat. This may make it possible to charge the Joy-Cons while still playing, although tethered by the power cord. Currently, the only way to play and charge the Joy-Cons is on the Switch itself.

Nintendo has two other official Joy-Con charging docks, although they are currently sold out on Nintendo’s website. Third-party charging docks are available at most retailers. None of the other charging docks appear to let you play and charge at the same time. In that case, this charging stand may be worth picking up at some point.

What do you think? Will you be getting this charging stand when it comes out? Do you have one of the other charging docks? Let us know in the comments!
