Nintendo Direct Announced for June, Focus on 2024 Switch Lineup Only

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa took to X to let Switch fans know that a Nintendo Direct is slated for June 2024. The specific date has not been disclosed yet, but keep an eye on this space for details! Furukawa did reveal that the focus of the Direct will be the Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, setting up the holiday season.
Nintendo has a history of June Directs, so this isn’t out of the ordinary. However, the exciting bombshell was revealed with another announcement — confirmation that the Switch’s successor will hit screens within this fiscal year. Viewers eager to hear details about this upcoming hardware during the Direct will have to be patient. Furukawa specified that no information about the new console will overshadow announcements of upcoming titles.
Many suspected Tears of the Kingdom was the Switch’s swan song; it was the final push in attempts of extending the console’s life. Then, the company tacked on another few months with the announcements of major Mario titles and remasters, including the yet-to-be-released Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Yet, it appears Nintendo has more up its sleeve waiting to surprise fans. Dedicated Zelda fans would love to see a collection of some persuasion as a final goodbye to the console, but the chances of this are faint rumors and wishes at best.
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct…

The Direct could announce a mix of new titles and Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) additions. For those who thought the Mario titles were the Switch’s final breath, I think I’m not alone in saying I’m happy to be proven wrong.
What titles and franchises do you think will be the highlight of the June Direct? If Nintendo adds more to the NSO catalog, do you think it’ll be cult classics or padding? We can’t wait to discuss theories and wishlists in the comments below!
