The most recent gameplay presentation for Tears of the Kingdom showcased a surprising new mechanic: the ability to fuse shields, weapons, and arrows with objects or other weapons. Though we don’t fully know the limits of this ability, the possibilities from what we were shown are already quite vast.

In Breath of the Wild, finding new weapons and managing durability was a key mechanic to ensure the game wasn’t too easy. Without it, a player could simply grab the strongest Lynel club available and spin that thing for the rest of the game. We know weapon durability is returning; however, the ability to merge a simple stick with a boulder, as shown in the trailer, makes me wonder what other incredible combinations are possible.

Don’t get me wrong, I think fusions are an excellent idea. But I can’t help wondering if they will become too powerful once players learn the best way to use them. The variety and strength of enemies would have to be scaled up tremendously from Breath of the Wild, especially in the late game, in order to compensate for this. Many players like to be challenged in Zelda games, and having an easy way to overcome most challenges could potentially rob them of that enjoyment.

Do you think weapon fusions will be too powerful in Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know in the comments below!
