There’s nothing like seeing a piece of gaming history for the first time!

A special hand-drawn version of the NES Legend of Zelda‘s map, never before seen in full online, was recently unearthed. The map, created by artist Takako Toshima, was originally displayed in a 1986 edition of the Japanese magazine NewType. The map spanned three separate pages of the magazine, but Zelda historian History of Hyrule did us all the awesome favor of stitching the map together and sharing an HD scan online for all to see.

The map is incredibly detailed and extremely beautiful. Even The Great Fairy can be see on the left-hand side, along with other iconic spots from The Legend of Zelda. It’s an amazing find, and it’s a great reminder of how far the series as a whole has come.
