The Definitive Ranking of Oracle of Ages
Posted on February 23 2022 by John Piland
Zelda Dungeon’s own Mases Hagopian and Gooey Fame are back with a Definitive Ranking video for the ages! …Or rather, for Oracle of Ages, one half of the pair of Zelda titles released for Game Boy, alongside Oracle of Seasons.
Art, story, and dungeons are just the surface topics evaluated as Mases and Gooey rank the game. Join them in their shenanigans as they discuss the hilariously tedious item switching, debate the efficiency of the swimming mechanics, share their experiences with the game’s enemies, and so much more. When it comes to combat, Mases enjoys the recreation of classic Zelda enemies, but doesn’t care so much for some of the bosses, feeling they’re too repetitive. Meanwhile, Gooey finds charm in some of the more repetitive bosses for their reliance on skill in spite of simplicity. As for Ganon, however, they both agree he’s one tough pig.
Overall, Mases’ and Gooey’s final rankings are around those of the community and staff rankings, with Mases’ matching the community’s at 3.6, and Gooey’s taking the highest with 3.7 out of five. Oracle of Ages‘ rankings contrast the last Definitive Ranking for Four Swords Adventures, where the dissonance between the four rankings were much greater than they are here. As for myself, I would probably have to rank Oracle of Ages with the community, as, though I thoroughly enjoy the game, Zelda just has so many games that rank higher for me.
Below are the Definitive Rankings of Oracle of Ages compared with the rest of the Zelda franchise. Don’t forget to watch the video to find out all that Mases and Gooey have to say about the game!

John has been a Zelda fan for over 10 years now and is proud to say the series has had a major impact on his life (and wallet). After years of going to Zelda Dungeon for guides or the latest news on the series, John achieved their dream when they joined the writing team in 2019; John can hardly believe how long it’s been. A librarian, he loves meticulously arranging his library of Zelda games and collectibles. After what felt like an eternity of waiting for Tears of the Kingdom, John looks forward to the future of the Zelda franchise with enthusiasm, whether that’s the upcoming movie, a new spin-off/remake, or the next big game.
