Daily Debate: What is Your Hope for Tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct?
Posted on February 16 2021 by Andrew Millard
After a year-long drought, Nintendo has announced a brand new, full-length Nintendo Direct showcase!
With so little information on long-gestating future titles, fans have been thirsty for any drop of new hype. In this relative silence, the fan community of The Legend of Zelda has been anticipating how Nintendo will celebrate the series’ 35th anniversary. And Zelda Dungeon is at a fever pitch hoping for something big.
Nintendo made a point to describe the new Direct as focusing on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, currently available titles, and releases set for “the first half of 2021.” However, it can’t be ignored that this showcase crops up so close to the original The Legend of Zelda‘s anniversary on February 21. Not to mention the cultivated tradition of surprise announcements for these videos.
For my part, I’m hoping for any concrete details on how Zelda‘s anniversary will be marked. The Super Mario Bros. anniversary releases were contentious, but Nintendo clearly gave the venerable plumber a landmark year amid a global pandemic. So, I think it’s safe to assume Link and company are in line for something special, too.
So, today’s debate question is: What are you hoping to see in the new Nintendo Direct? Is your prediction based on pure optimism, or grounded in well-earned pessimism?
Tell us all of your thoughts and predictions in the comments below. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be proven correct in 24 little hours. Here’s hoping!
