Daily Debate: Should There Be A Direct Sequel To Majora’s Mask?
Posted on April 25 2020 by David Nystrom
Majora’s Mask is possibly one of the greatest sequels to an already perfect game. It took many of the ways we thought about playing Zelda and put them into an emotional blender. This game took Link and put him on a personal journey that we’d never seen before, and in my opinion, never since. But that then raises the question of, why was there never a sequel to Majora’s Mask? A sequel which tells one more chapters in the Hero of Time’s story?
Thanks to the books of the Goddess Trilogy, we know that the Hero of Time did indeed have a future beyond his mask-wearing quest, but we never saw it. Fans have long speculated on it, content creators have worked on creating a tale for it, but the Big N has never given us definitive answers regarding the Hero’s fate.
As somebody who has created content for a time era left to mystery in the Zelda lore, I think this would be amazing. I’d love to see a third chapter in that particular Link’s life. His journey in Ocarina of Time is timeless, and Majora’s Mask is so deeply personal. The third chapter could bring those elements together in a way that gives a fitting answer as to how Link ended up as the Hero’s Shade in Twilight Princess.
What do you think? Would you want to see a direct sequel to Majora’s Mask? What do you think it would be about? Let us know in the comments below, or chat about it over on our Discord!
