Cave of Trials: The Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament is Not Only Here, But Has Become Bigger and More Badass!
Posted on December 09 2018 by Kristen G. Rosario
Ladies and gentleman, my name is Kristen. Rosario. And I am your host for the CAVE OF TRIALS! Now before we begin part one of round one of the SMASH ULTIMATE FANTASMIC HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT, I want to take a look at how our Smash Bros. Exhibition Match went between Toon Link and Roy. Toon Link won (if that wasn’t obvious), so let’s get onwards with the tournament.
The one thing you’ll notice in the bracket is that I increased the number of combatants. Previously, I thought a simple 16 competitors would be enough. Surprisingly, in my search for worthy combatants, I found a lot more than I anticipated. Now instead of 16 fighters, there are now 26! Take a look at who I chose!
With all of that out of the way, let us get started with part one of the first round! And since this such a special tournament, I decided to let these fighters managers let us know why there character will win. Up first, we have Felix from Golden Sun taking on Cats from Zero Wing!
Here’s what Bobby Chichester, Felix’s Manager, had to say about his fighter:
“Golden Sun was an iconic RPG series, and while Isaac was the protagonist of the first game, Felix is really the hero of the story. And while his actions might seem villainous at first, he is wise in determining the outcome of his own fate. Felix is an outstanding combatant, and despite being a silent protagonist, his quiet determination is commented on at least once and remains his most outstanding trait.”
And this is what Mr. Spite, Cats’ Manager, said in his own “unique” way:
“In A.D. 2101 War was beginning. What happen ? Somebody set up us the bomb. We get signal. What ! Main screen turn on. It’s you !! How are you gentlemen !! All your base are belong to us. You are on the way to destruction. What you say !! You have no chance to survive make your time. Ha ha ha ha … !! Take off every ‘ZIG’!! You know what you doing. Move ‘ZIG’. For great justice”
Who wins the first match!?
Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament: Round One
- Felix (66%, 25 Votes)
- Cats (34%, 13 Votes)
Total Voters: 38
In our second bout this week, it is the former Cave of Trials NEW ERA Champion Ghirahim, squaring off against the internet sensation sweeping the world, Bowsette.
During his time away from the ring, Ghirahim managed to get himself a manager in the form of Sean Gadus. This is what he had to say about the former champ:
“Ghirahim is the most exuberant villain in the Zelda series. He has a cool mix of magic attacks and physical attacks, making him very versatile which makes it easy for any opponent to fall to him. It’s always great to see villains come out on top.”
Mrs. A.N. Pits, Bowsette’s Manager, has this to say about her currently high profile client:
“There’s a saying that goes “strike while the iron is hot”. And while some of the craze may have died down, like it or not, you can’t deny Bowsette was/is still the hottest thing on the internet. Frankly this tournament is in need of some more powerful female characters, and Bowsette has no problem stepping into that role. Bowsette is bae, and with her potentially dominating skills, I could see her becoming the next champ.”
Who dominates the second bout?!
Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament: Round One
- Ghirahim (65%, 39 Votes)
- Bowsette (35%, 21 Votes)
Total Voters: 60
Our third match has the keyblade-wielding hero of Kingdom Hearts Sora, taking on the simple but potentially deadly Farmer from Harvest Moon.
There’s not much known about Sora’s Manager Cagey R., but I hear is he is a very capable human being. This is what he had to say about Sora:
“The main protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series, Sora is a certifiable, keyblade-wielding badass. He already comes from a bizarre game crossover franchise, so why can’t he dominate this tournament? He already has a vast number of abilities based on the five games(ish) that he’s starred in alone. Plus if he joins in, you’re adding a very dominant individual who the whole world will want to watch win it all.”
Katie Zezulka, Farmer’s Manager, has a few words to say about her fighter:
“The Farmer has aggression in what is basically a non-violent game of Harvest Moon, so do not underestimate him! His power deserves so much more love than it gets! An appearance of the Farmer in such a big tournament could really do a lot to set fear in those who appose him. Male or female, it doesn’t matter to him, it’s just always nice to obliterate the competition.”
Who stands tall after this third match?!
Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament: Round One
- Sora (75%, 40 Votes)
- Farmer (25%, 13 Votes)
Total Voters: 53
The fourth match in part one, round one pits the Pokémon Decidueye, against the leader of Lin Kuei, Sub-Zero.
The manager of Decidueye (or trainer in this case), Alexis Anderson talks a bit about her Pokémon:
“An expert in the art of grass moves, Decidueye is a speedy and lethal force that shouldn’t be underestimated. I have trained with him since my Pokémon journey began and he is no push over. Decidueye doesn’t even need to be close to you in order for him to win the fight, and maybe even this tournament.”
Sub-Zero’s Manager, Taylor Wells, has some choice words about his client:
“Almost as long as there has been Street Fighter, there has been Mortal Kombat, a tournament that puts battles to the death as if they were just a normal day. Sub-Zero is an up-close-and-personal fighter while still having some interesting tricks to slow down his foes. Combine this with his ability to freeze opponents mid-air and you’ve got a fun battle to come. If Death can kill lesser men, then why can’t Sub-Zero make all of his opponents fade-to-black?”
Who walks out still standing?!
Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament: Round One
- Sub-Zero (56%, 27 Votes)
- Decidueye (44%, 21 Votes)
Total Voters: 48
The fifth and final match (for part one) has The Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter taking on The Hand from Majora’s Mask.
The Drifter’s Manager, Matt Pederson, has this to say about his fighter, though it’s not much:
“The Drifter is a diverse character with a huge arsenal of weaponry and abilities, making him an ideal candidate for this tournament.”
Sadly, The Hand’s manager was unable to comment, though they have confirmed he will be competing in this tourney. Who succeeds in this fight?!
Smash Ultimate Fantasmic Holiday Tournament: Round One
- The Hand (67%, 31 Votes)
- The Drifter (33%, 15 Votes)
Total Voters: 46
That’s it for this week! Who will win? Who will prevail? Who will be moving forward into the next round of the SMASH ULTIMATE FANTASMIC HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT? Tune in next week for the second part of Round One!
