IGN: Hyrule Times
Posted on May 09 2011 by Jacob Green
As part of their coverage for ‘The Year of Zelda’, IGN has started up an old series of articles known as The Hyrule Times. This series is devoted to Ocarina of Time and will be updated regularly until Ocarina of Time 3D is released this June. This is an old feature from the early 2000’s and now it’s back to cover the latest Zelda events. So far, unfortunately, features are nothing to write home about.
The first article titled, “The Impact of Ocarina of Time,” is a sort of beginners guide to the history of the Zelda franchise as it relates to Ocarina of Time. The information contained within the article could be regurgitated by many of this website’s staff and even more forum users. Even someone who has played it and is just vaguely familiar with earlier games in the franchise. Here are the insights they have about how the game developed the franchise’s history:
The above is true; that is to say it’s factual, unlike another installment of theirs, but there’s hardly any insight or elaboration in this paragraph. Sure Ocarina of Time told Hyrule’s history, but there’s no mention of how it messed up the existing timeline which was straight forward even though, as they say, it may not have well known, nor do they mention the creation of the split timeline with this game. In fact, Ocarina of Time’s events are now some of the most disputed in the franchise.
So this is article is not a hard hitting investigation, but it’s a decent introduction to the revival of this column. A second article featuring various locale’s around Ocarina of Time’s Hyrule can be found here.
What did you think of the article? Did you find it entertaining? Was it worth reading? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
