Nintendo has always been known as very smart and clever when it comes to its developers placing hidden facts and secrets in the titles they create. The Legend of Zelda is no exception and quite a few cameo appearances and hidden secrets discovered leave us with our jaws hitting the floor. A few months ago Official Nintendo Magazine showed you some amazing facts and secrets that a lot of us never knew about and they have gladly revealed 10 more which are very intriguing to read about.

Here is a brief summary of the 10 facts and secrets Official Nintendo Magazine have discovered.

1. Luigi Encryption in Ocarina of Time?

Rumors surfaced years ago when a plaque uncovered in Super Mario 64 created excitement in gamers thinking Luigi was a hidden character in the game. Although seemingly blurred, interpreters have transcribed the plaque as saying “L is real 2041” which, amazingly, was also found exactly on a stone tablet in Dodongo’s Cavern in Ocarina of Time.

2. The Meaning of Madame Fanadi’s Fortune

Appearing in Twilight Princess, Madame Fanadi will tell your fortune out of the choices of “love” or “career” which will seem to make no sense when reading her answer in the text. The key is to reverse the way you look at the text. Reading the text backwards when choosing “love” spells out “wait…loading takes awhile” while choosing career and reading Madame Fanadi’s answer backwards turns out to be “what am I talking about”.

3. Wearing the Bremen Mask While Battling Bodyguards

When battling Igos du Ikana’s bodyguards with the Bremen Mask in Majora’s Mask, they will stop trying to pierce you and instead march in a humorous fashion behind you until you halt to a stop. Another secret is if you wear the Captain’s Hat, the undead king will mistake you for Captain Keeta before realizing you’re far too small to portray him.

4. History of the “Fairy Fountain Theme”

We all know the “Fairy Fountain theme” which appears in plenty of Zelda games yet did you know it originally debuted in Super Mario Bros 3 acting as the overworld theme for the Water Land level? Also, the warp whistle from the same Mario title sounds exactly like the Ocarina of Time title screen theme and the ocarina given to Link in the Minish Cap.

 5. The Inspiration Behind Link’s Awakening

Link’s Awakening is considered by developer Takashi Tezuka as just a spin off which took detail from a Zelda-inspired title for Game Boy, Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (For the Frog the Bell Tolls). That game’s engine for the top-down word scrolling was implemented in Link’s Awakening.

6. Pikmin Cameos in the Wind Waker

In the Wind Waker, you need to travel to the three Triangle Islands and place a pearl on each of the worn-out statues. Remarkably, each statue looks like a certain Pikmin. Din’s statue looks like a red Pikmin, Nayru’s like the blue Pikmin, and Farore’s like the yellow Pikmin.

7. The Making of the Ocarina of Time

The Zelda encyclopedia, Hyrule Historia, will release in a couple of months in the West and some info has emerged that the book suggests the Ocarina of Time was actually molded together from the identical material as the timeshift stones from Skyward Sword.

8. The “Secret” Phrase From the Legend of Zelda

The original Legend of Zelda showcased a friendly Moblin who would hand over rupees while giving the infamous phrase, “It’s a secret to everybody.” Ever since, Nintendo has given NPCs the chance to also use variations of the phrase such as the guard you bribe to let you into Hyrule Castle, and Zelda before she tells you the Triforce story in Ocarina of Time.

9. The Meaning of Koume and Kotake

Koume and Kotake are the twin witches from Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Oracle titles and their German names actually mean Killer Granny and Killer Grannies. Disturbingly enough, the German name for their transformed state, Twinrova, translates as Sexy thermo hexy.

10. Ceiling Design in Skyward Sword’s Sealed Temple

When Link adjoins the Sealed Temple with its other half, the Isle of the Goddess, the ceiling of the newly-designed room reveals the emblems of the six medallions which appear in Ocarina of Time.
