Speedrunning Marathon to Feature Classic Zelda Games, Includes Swordless Run of NES Zelda
Posted on July 28 2015 by Rod Lloyd
The annual speedrunning marathon known as Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) will be taking place throughout this week, showcasing unbelievable runs of our favorite classic games for charity. If you weren’t lucky enough to catch the Twilight Princess Any% run yesterday, don’t worry; there are still several Zelda speedruns to catch this week. In addition to an Ocarina of Time run on Thursday, a Wind Waker run on Saturday, and more, the marathon will also feature a special bonus “swordless” speedrun of the original Legend of Zelda on the NES.
SGDQ’s next Zelda block will begin Wednesday at about 3 PM Pacific Time. This block will kick off with an Any% speedrun of Majora’s Mask 3D by speedrunner NOUFozzy. Any% runs of Majora’s Mask 3D feature a ton of skips and sequence breaks, so fans of so-called “glitch runs” should thoroughly enjoy themselves.
At about 5 PM Pacific Time, this Zelda block will conclude with a “BONUS” swordless speedrun of the NES Legend of Zelda by jkoper. The run promises to show us “just how dangerous it is to go alone.” The old man in the cave will not be pleased.
On Thursday at about 7:45 PM Pacific Time, SGDQ will feature an Any% speedrun of Ocarina of Time by former record holder Jodenstone. The Zelda speedruns will continue again on Saturday at about 1 AM Pacific Time, with an Any% speedrun of The Wind Waker by Chaotic_Ace.
Finally, a speedrun of A Link to the Past by Xelna will take place later that day at about 12 PM Pacific Time. This will be an “Any% No Major Glitches” run, but there is a donation incentive for a 100% run. If you’d like to see that happen, be sure to donate. You may even win some cool prizes.
If you’d like to find out more, donate, or see the event’s full schedule relative to your local time zone, check out Summer Games Done Quick’s website.
Will you be watching any of these Zelda speedruns? Are there any other speedruns you’re looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.
