NES Punk: Gray Zelda NES Cartridge Is More Rare Than Gold
Posted on April 06 2015 by C. M. Lanning
Most Zelda fans are probably familiar with the original game that started the series on the NES. It was released on February 21, 1986, and when the game came to NES, it was in a gold cartridge. What some fans may not be aware of is that it was rereleased as a gray cartridge. This caused some fans to question which is more rare, and YouTuber Pat the NES Punk, also known as Pat Contri, set out to answer that question in one of his latest videos.
In his video, Contri tells viewers that the gold cartridge of the original Legend of Zelda game is more common than the later-released gray one.
Contri goes on to say that he comes across far more gold cartridges than gray, but that doesn’t necessarily make the gray cartridge worth more money. In fact, he warns viewers that if someone is ever selling the gray cartridge for more than a couple dollars above the gold cartridge’s price to stay away from it. The gray cartridge isn’t rare. It is simply less common than the gold Legend of Zelda cartridge, Contri said.
Contri offers reviews of original Nintendo games on his YouTube channel and also releases a podcast episode every other week. For more information about Pat the NES Punk, click here.
