It’s not unusual for bosses and other enemies in the Zelda series to take inspiration from real world creatures. It’s also not unusual for Nintendo to completely make up their own ideas. As it turns out, Morpha’s tentacle appears to be based on a real world creature known as a Pyrosome. Technically, it’s many creatures combining to form one. It’s formed by a large group of Tunicates which is in turn formed by a large group of Zooids. Sounds like something from another planet, right? There is just a lot of odd things we’re still learning about in our oceans and seas.
Honestly, I don’t fully grasp how such a creature comes to be, but that’s what marine biologists are for. All I know is that looking at this beast, it definitely has a close resemblance to Morpha’s infamous tentacle. While this could be a mere coinicidence, it is possible that Nintendo drew inspiration. What do you think?
