Miyamoto Says that More Spin-off Titles Are Coming for Wii U in 2015

In a recent Q&A, Miyamoto stated that more spin-off and third party titles are coming for Wii U in 2015. He indicated that Nintendo has a new focus on offering us new spin-off titles of their series to keep giving us new software for Wii U. Mentioning that they finally completed the step on learning new development techniques, he also asserted that Nintendo will now be able release more games in short periods of time. Hopefully, this will fix an original problem of the Wii U, in which many titles for Wii U were delayed because technical difficulties with HD development, so many titles originally planned for launch were pushed back for many months.
It was also mentioned that Nintendo is working with many third party developers to produce its titles (Probably something like the collaboration with Koei Tecmo for Hyrule Warriors, or assets, cutscenes, etc,) Miyamoto also thinks that 2015 will be a great year for Wii U, with games like Zelda U, Xenoblade Chronicles, Yoshi’s Woolly World and many more coming soon.
You can see the full commentary here:
“On development time, we have already completed the step of learning new development techniques. So, we should experience less developmental delays stemming from learning new hardware. From now on, it becomes a matter of if we can use our experience efficiently and one part of our plan to do so is to use ‘spin-off games’, which allow us to use our major title franchises, but create on a smaller scale and we are working hard on making these sort of derived products. In this way, we are preparing to expand on our characters while also increasing the number of software we output and allowing our customers to have their next experiences in certain franchises without waiting three years.
We are also working more and more with many different 3rd party companies to produce our titles and from this year we have begun to work with some software developers for the very first time. We are in the process of creating a system where we are actively seeking outside assistance to help us create an abundance of major titles. I feel that next year’s Wii U titles are plentiful. We will continue working hard.”
How will this affect the Zelda franchise? More specifically, how will it affect Zelda U‘s development? This opens the opportunity of more Zelda spin-off titles. Nintendo recently registered the “Hyrule” trademark which likely indicates that Nintendo is working on more spin-off projects for the Zelda series. Perhaps they can go from the action-packed Hyrule Warriors, to a more strategic RPG, for example. And those third party collaborations could mean that they are helping with Zelda U‘s development, like working on assets (Like what happened with The Wind Waker HD for example) for the game or even the soundtrack.
It’s good to know that Nintendo is working hard to give us plenty games for Wii U next year. 2015 looks like a big year for Nintendo and I’m hoping for more spin-offs like Hyrule Warriors and having a more diverse library of Wii U games .
