Iwata Suggests Plans to Recreate More Titles for the 3DS

In just one weeks time we’re about to get our second 3DS remake in the Zelda series, known as Majora’s Mask 3D. As it turns out there is a chance, though a small one, that it may not be the last for the system. More importantly… the mentality Iwata has on this particular subject would suggest that even on future systems, Nintendo plans to explore more remake possibilities. This gives a bright future to the plausibility of more Zelda games getting remade. If the treatment of games on the Wii U is also any indication, it’s reasonable to think that maybe the next home console will explore this more too. Here is what he had to say to Japanese outlet Nikkei:

“Nintendo’s comeback strategy includes expanding customer choice by adding more affordable software titles”. Nikkei recently spoke with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, and was told that the company “plans to re-create games for the Nintendo 3DS portable system based on past titles and smartphone offerings.” By keeping development costs low, Nintendo can provide content “at prices as low as several hundred yen.”

Very interesting stuff. I sincerely hope the remake mentality persists so long as it doesn’t slow down their new game development. It can really help fill the gaps in some of the software droughts. What do you think? Personally, I find this to be big boon for Nintendo and for Nintendo fans. I love being able to revisit games like Majora’s Mask, and we alternatively love having to update and create new content for those games, such as the Majora’s Mask 3D Walkthrough. Thoughts?
