GameXplain and Gamnesia Discuss the Recent “Leaked” Smash Images
Posted on August 21 2014 by James Evans
Yesterday, we reported on a set of leaked images from Super Smash Bros 3DS. As it turns out, this one has become more convincing than previous leaks as there is a lot of debate backing both sides of the argument. In fact, the leak is so convincing that Gamnesia teamed up with GameXplain to discuss their interpretations of the images.
While there is no doubt that the character models look legit, the designs are not exactly out of the realm of fans’ creative capabilities. The video does explain a lot of the details that make valid points to either side, but everything outside of the character models just looks off. Even the images themselves look like they are taken from a camera at awkward viewing angles, but there is no system displaying them.
One of the more noticeable inconsistencies is the missing Mii character slot. While some are saying that Mii is not showing up because customization is turned off, I find it hard to see that the character slot would simply disappear from the menu. I would think that either the standard version of the character would be playable or the slot would simply grey out to keep the menu pattern consistent. Which brings me to the point that the background is appalling at best and nonexistent otherwise. Each character is also given a distinct color background, which is inconsistent with past Smash titles. I believe this detail was included to add color to an otherwise black background.
Another quick character point regards the inclusion of one of the more unexpected character inclusions: the dog from Duck Hunt. My problem is that the character is named “Duck Hunt”. It’s my understanding that the dog was never actually given a name, but wouldn’t “Dog” or “Laughing Dog” be more appropriate? Other unnamed characters have more descriptive names rather than simply being named after the title of their game; Wii Fit and Animal Crossing aren’t playable characters, but the Trainer and the Villager are.
There is a lot of information that could defend both sides of the argument, but I’ll leave it to the experts in the video to really hit the details. The fact still stands that this is a well presented leak and can’t be taken for fact either way. Check out the video to get the full details and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
